Security of Facilis servers strengthened with HUB version 8.1
The new version 8.1 of HUB Shared Storage, the system included in Facilis servers dedicated to the transport and storage of audiovisual assets, reinforces the security, versatility and management of the system.
Among these new features is the birth of Smart Access Rules, a graphical interface that allows administrators to add customised policies to the volume resources to provide or deny access to users or groups. Through this system, access rules can be assigned to specific paths, folders and file names on a per-user and per-group basis. Unlike traditional access control lists, this new feature allows access rules on specific file types to protect critical assets; a create-only feature, which secures data after it is written to general ingest locations; and no-delete options while maintaining project saves and overwrites.
Additionally, version 8.1 of the Facilis system enables new features such as Delete restore, a function that allows users’ deleted files to be restored to their original location or removed from the system; improved file system auditing; and new support for macOS Monterey (version 12) and M1 ARM Macs with Ethernet and Fibre Channel connectivity.
Jim McKenna, CMO of Facilis Technology, believes that HUB version 8.1 introduces great new features that can remove certain limitations common to many custom shared file system products.” “Even with these new features, Facilis remains as simple to use as a local hard drive. The administrator can decide whether to keep with the traditional volume-level permissions or add the new Smart Access Rules per-volume for much more flexible allocation of storage,” he notes.
