Reuters renews its camera fleet with Sony Alpha 7S III and PXW-Z280 cameras
O Sony Alpha 7S III and PXW-Z280 will be the new cameras with which Reuters news agency journalists will capture audiovisual content globally.
According to Sony, this significant investment by Reuters represents a “testament” to the long-standing relationship between Reuters and Sony, driven by the Japanese technology company’s deep understanding of the on-the-ground needs of journalists and Reuters’ mission to deliver quality news. Beyond Media Backbone Hive, a Sony system already in use at Reuters as its primary multi-platform news production system, 23 of the news agency’s locations will deploy Alpha 7S III e PXW-Z280 cameras; G Master lenses; and UWP-D wireless audio systems.
Since its launch, the Alpha 7S III has established itself as a camera for outdoor content creators in need of a compact solution with high image quality. In this case, the advanced autofocus performance for hybrid use, along with its low-light performance, were key features in Reuters’ decision making. Sony’s E-mount strategy also provides journalists with the flexibility to capture images in a variety of environments.
On the other hand, the PXW-Z280 stands out for its ease of use, electronic variable ND filter and Sony’s Instant HDR workflow, which “eliminates the need for color grading”. Its advanced networking features and multi-format support allow it to be easily, securely and wirelessly integrated into a cloud-based newsgathering workflow. Both cameras benefit from the connectivity options needed to easily connect to the cloud and transfer content seamlessly and reliably from the capture site to the remote playout unit, which is important in news gathering.
Gildas Pelliet, Head of Imaging and Professional Solutions at Sony Europe, welcomes the recent agreement signed with the agency: “We are delighted that Reuters has chosen Sony for this key piece of its technology ecosystem. In pressurized environments, nothing is more important for a news organization than being reliable and on time. This is where reliability, image quality and cloud-based workflows become crucial, and those are the qualities we have brought to our cameras and workflow solutions.”
