Rohde Schwarz Venice UI

4K UHD signals, whether built around 12G or 2SI, are now supported by the Rohde & Schwarz Venice media platform.

Veneza is a high-performance media platform designed to handle signal processing and storage, especially those for live studio production applications. It provides operations such as scheduled recording, clip transformation e playouts across a network of processors and storage subsystems from both R&S and third parties. It also serves as a bridge between SDI and IP environments.

Thanks to an upgrade, Veneza servers can now be configured for multiple HD and Ultra HD signals. The Rohde & Schwarz solution supports either 12G, a single high-bandwidth connection; or 2SI, which distributes the signal pixel-by-pixel over four conventional SDI cables.

Software-defined solution

The fact that each Veneza processor is software-defined means that broadcasters can switch between Ultra HD and HD signals “easily”. At the same time, the R&S system enables resource sharing, e.g. via a method called Transform Channel Assignment, which allows simultaneous recording, display and processing of a source (e.g. trimmed, merged or edited). Using the recording scheduler, Venice anticipates to ensure that there are enough channels for the planned recordings, while also handling current access requests.

Andreas Loges, Vice President Media Technologies at Rohde & Schwarz, comments on the launch: “With Venice, we set out to offer a platform for excellence in mission-critical broadcast applications like playout. Central to that is the ability to be flexible, to meet the workflows our users demand, and to provide a seamless opportunity to handle Ultra HD signals as they are required.”
