Avid upgrades Nexis to address storage for top-tier audio projects

Nexis, Avid’s software-defined storage solution, has recently been upgraded to address the “most demanding” audio environments in the production and post-production industry.

Optimized for real-time multimedia production, Avid Nexis is presented as a shared and collaborative storage solution that is designed to provide performance, scalability and availability for professional audio and video content creation workflows. The system has recently been upgraded to accommodate post-production facilities, dubbing studios E multi-room studios that use multiple Avid Pro Tools workstations, offering a wide range of storage “engines” both on-premise and in the cloud.

Specifically, Avid recommends that users managing the “most demanding” projects deploy the Avid Nexis F2 SSD engine. With Avid Nexis | VFS software version 2023.12 or later, the performance of SSD-based Nexis systems becomes verified to support up to 8,000 tracks via Nexis F2 SSD across hundreds of connected Pro Tools workstations accessing audio clips, session files, video streams and other media simultaneously, while enabling 6x faster performance for audio punch-in.

For smaller-scale projects, production teams can use the Avid Nexis F-Series E Avid Nexis | PRO+ engines. With Avid Nexis | VFS 2023.12 or later software, both solutions offer verified multi-user performance for Pro Tools audio workflows, now enabling “2x faster” performance for audio punch-in and 20% faster save times for Pro Tools sessions. The Nexis F series supports up to 175 million files and 500 voices per media pack, while Nexis | PRO+ supports up to 5 million files and 500 voices per media pack.
