AJA - Dante AV 4K-R - 4K-T - Zeros in One

IL AJA Dante AV 4K-T encoders and Dante AV 4K-R decoders have arrived in the workflow of Zeros in One, a production company specializing in video for the world of rock and roll and major world tours.

Founder of the video production company Zeros in One, Jason Harvey has always relied on reliable equipment. In the rock and roll business for more than 25 years, he has worked with megastars such as Madonna, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney, among others. For his latest tour, Harvey has opted for two of AJA’s latest developments with Audinato technology: “Dante AV 4K-T and 4K-R are very well suited for live music productions. We’re still putting them through the paces and haven’t fully unleashed their potential, but what we’ve uncovered so far is amazing. They’re going to make a lot of people’s lives much easier, especially as more venues install IP networks.”

In his current project, Harvey oversees an installation of twelve cameras, four manned and eight robotic, that capture images for display in the hall and record each show. The images are recorded in 1080 60p with 3G, totaling 0.5 TB per camera each night (6 TB per show). The raw signal is sent to the media servers, where color correction and filters are applied; the signal is then sent to the LED video displays. Three AJA Ki Pro Ultras handle the main recording in ProRes, while Ki Pro GO performs the backup recording in H.264. Next, ten AJA FiDO fiber-optic converters are integrated into the front-on-house touring rack, while AJA Dante AV 4K-T encoders and AJA Dante AV 4K-R decoders allow Harvey to transmit and receive Dante AV Ultra signals up to 4K/UltraHD, with 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 inputs or outputs over standard 1GigE IP networks. On all projects, Harvey also takes advantage of the AJA FS-HDR E AJA FS2 frame synchronizers.

After the shoot, AJA’s PAK Media SSDs help simplify data management, allowing Harvey to switch media quickly. Unlike film shoots, which have shorter takes and fewer cameras, live concert recording entails hours of individual shots with up to 20 cameras. With a few PAKs, Thunderbolt 3 PAK docks, two MacBook Pros, and two G-RAID 2 24TB drives, I can move many terabytes of data in a few hours from my hotel room,” Harvey conveys.

The experience with AJA’s Dante AV 4K-R and 4K-T has been entirely satisfactory to date. All indications are that Harvey and his team will continue to rely on this solution in the near future: “The new Dante AV gear has worked flawlessly thus far and we’re just getting started. We’ve already beaten it up in racks with air temps over 40C. We were all melting but the gear withstood the heat. (…) Technology is changing all the time, so it’s nearly impossible to keep pace. That said, I always keep an ear to the ground, because you never know what you’re going to be asked to do next, and AJA gear has been my go-to for nearly 20 years. It’s easy-to-use and bulletproof, even on the road, plus the AJA team listens to their customer and develops gear based on that input. I just love AJA products and keep coming back for more.”
