Broadcast Solutions guida la progettazione e la produzione di tre OB Vehicle UHD per la SRG
SRG has received two of the three mobile units with 8 cameras and UHD and Dolby Atmos capabilities that Soluzioni di trasmissione has designed and produced.
The Swiss broadcaster is undertaking a modernisation project of the Swiss stations SRF, RTS, RTR and RSI, which involves replacing their mobile units, which have reached the end of their useful life, to have new vehicles with UHD capabilities.
The systems integrator Soluzioni di trasmissione has been in charge of planning and integrating these new vehicles in the PaaM (Production as a Module) category. SRG thus relies on a uniform vehicle concept and design for the new mobile production vehicles with 8 cameras. Tim Rast, project manager at SRG, elaborates on this philosophy: “The standardised and identical design of the three vehicles reduces the internal training effort enormously. After thorough training, the teams can work easily and quickly on all vehicles and know which technology is located and how the workflows are designed. We are also strengthening internal cohesion and knowledge transfer with this project; the teams can train each other internally, and questions can be discussed and clarified internally in a user group.”
Matthias Hahn, senior project manager at Soluzioni di trasmissione, explains some of the key aspects of the design of these vehicles for SRG: “We worked closely with all partners at SRG right from the start, so that our specialists, external designers and acousticians could develop the workplace and workflow concept, the acoustics, the interior design and lighting concept as closely as possible together with the customer and we could respond to SRG’s wishes in the best possible way.”
The technology of the new SRG mobile units
At the heart of the two mobile units delivered (and the third, due to arrive in 2023) is Riedel’s decentralised MediorNet MicroN UHD router system. Specifically, 16 MicroN UHD units distribute the audio, video and multiviewer signals. The German manufacturer is also present in the form of an intercom system with the Artista 1024 E Bolero unità.
In terms of capture, the vehicle integrated by Broadcast Solutions has 8 Sony HDCU 5500 cameras each, whose signal is managed by a Sony MVS-7000 mixer and two SVE XT VIA servers. Control of the crosspoints, UMD, tallies and multiviewer signal switching in the PaaM vehicles is handled by the human interface hi control system, a Soluzioni di trasmissione in-house development.
The audio installation is also state-of-the-art, as the mobile units created by Soluzioni di trasmissione are among the first in Europe to have the option of Dolby Atmos production with signals processed through a Stagetec Avartus console.
A State-of-the-art design
SRG’s vehicles are designed as a combination of box and truck body. With a maximum weight of 25 tonnes (max. equipped) and a length of only 11 metres, they have an extension (full length) and 12 workstations. They can work with 8 cameras during productions, in special cases with up to a maximum of 10.
Allo stesso modo, Soluzioni di trasmissione confirms that the interior of the vehicle has been designed with flexible workstations in mind, so that several workstations can be used in a second row as required. To this end, the work surfaces can be rotated, adjusted in height, moved along the axis and used with or without monitors.
IL lighting, temperature and climate control of the mobile unit that Broadcast Solutions has defined for this project are adjustable to the individual preferences of each work area. Its approach to lighting includes indirect lighting, ambient lighting and direct light sources for the workstations. In addition, all light sources can be dimmed and change colour. To ensure optimal air purification (critical not only in times of COVID-19), the UVC units are integrated into the recirculation circuit of the air-conditioning system. The coordination of the supply air volume with a fine-rod filter and an actively controllable exhaust air system ensures optimum air exchange and a pleasant room climate.
