LiveU, latest member of the SRT Alliance
IL SRT Alliance, an open-source initiative dedicated to overcoming the challenges of low-latency video streaming, has added LiveU, a provider of live video streaming and remote production solutions.
With this move, LiveU seeks to further support open standards for video contribution and distribution over the public Internet. Within the brand’s ecosystem, SRT will coexist with LiveU’s transport protocol, LRT.
IL SRT Alliance, founded by Haivision in April 2017, has more than 500 members. It aims to overcome the challenges of low-latency live streaming by supporting the collaborative development of SRT (Secure Reliable Transport), an open-source streaming protocol originally developed by Haivision.
Cross-industry collaboration
Avi Cohen, COO and co-founder of LiveU, emphasizes that the technology community is committed to the development of SRT: “We’re proud to join the SRT Alliance, helping to steer the open source development of the SRT protocol and ensure full interoperability and reliability across public internet video contribution and distribution. It brings together a very significant number of companies, further increasing cross-industry collaboration and future protocol development.”
For his part, Suso Carrillo, Director of the SRT Alliance at Haivision, welcomes LiveU: “We’re pleased to see the SRT protocol being actively deployed by some of the world’s biggest broadcast and production companies as its adoption and industry-wide recognition continues to grow. LiveU is an important new member of the Alliance.”
