Ross Video’s XPression transforms the graphics of WRAL-TV (NBC)
WRAL-TV, an NBC-affiliated television station broadcasting from North Carolina (USA), has integrated Vidéo de Ross‘s XPression software into its daily operations.
In order to transform its graphic identity, WRAL-TV contacted Rocket Surgery in late 2020. Once Ross Video’s in-house creative and professional services department had transformed both the brand identity and graphics of its news programs, John Gilliam, head of creative services, felt it would be a good idea to move to Ross Video’s XPression.
Adopting the software has enabled WRAL-TV, the first commercial broadcaster in the United States to broadcast in HD, to automate many of its processes. In this way, Gilliam says, they are being “more creative” so they can “really shine”. This workflow is based on the use of animated templates that editors can use by dragging text and video: “These packages look like they took hours and cost a fortune to make, but one producer with only limited knowledge of XPression can create them in minutes.”
New projects
Today, Ross Video’s XPression is not only used for news, but also for weather information, sports productions and entertainment content. And this, according to Gilliam, is just the beginning: “We still have a few things we’d like to do, including building our lottery show in XPression, but I’m extremely satisfied with where we are now. It took us about three months to learn XPression and we’ve been using it on-air for just over a month. The support from Ross to get us up to speed in such a short period was amazing and it was a real partnership approach.”
“There are lots of graphics packages for broadcast applications out there in the market, but I haven’t seen anything that is as complete as XPression from a workflow and creative standpoint,” concludes the WRAL-TV manager.
