Grass Valley’s IP technology arrives at NBC Sports’ Stamford headquarters
NBC Sports Group has opted for open architecture IP technology by installing a series of equipment supplied by Vallée de l'herbe.
The cornerstone of this project is Grass Valley’s GV Orbit dynamic orchestrator, a unified configuration, control and monitoring solution designed specifically for dynamic orchestration of networks over SDI, hybrid or IP. In addition to this core orchestration layer, NBC Sports has integrated the XIP-3901-UDC-IF dual-channel SDI-IP 4K UHD format converter; and the Kaleido-IP multiviewer and processor.
These dynamic software processing solutions combine with GV Orbit, providing an agile response for the demanding live sports production environment.
NBC Sports Roadmap
Tim Canary, NBC’s vice president of engineering, set a goal of having all of the routing at its Stamford headquarters upgraded by 2023. However, they have been able to accelerate the process by adopting Grass Valley’s system: “Grass Valley has been a trusted technology partner for years and we were impressed with their latest innovations in IP technology, making this an easy choice. The GV Orbit technology was built from the ground up for the demands of live production in an IP environment and Grass Valley has been a true partner throughout this entire technology transformation.” Lukas Zahas, director of broadcast technology at NBC Sports, meanwhile, highlights the value of Grass Valley’s “Dynamic IP Blueprint” philosophy, which “empowers us to build, configure and change systems on-the-fly.”
Enfin, Sydney Lovely, CTO of Grass Valley, celebrated Grass Valley’s role in the new phase of NBC Sports: “As the founding member of AIMS, Grass Valley prides itself on innovative and interoperable solutions that set the standard for the industry. We are honored that NBC Sports has once again placed their trust in GV to bring this most valuable content to the world.”
