Elemental CEO Sam Blackman dies suddenly at age 41
A cardiac arrest suddenly ends with one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs in the broadcast and media industry.
Sam Blackman, one of the more prominent leaders of the broadcast technology scene and CEO of AWS Elemental, has died at the age of 41. Blackman just opened a new Portland office for AWS Elemental last week and was planning business trips for the next few weeks, including IBC.
Portland native transformed Oregon’s Silicon Forest by founding in 2006 alongside Brian Lewis and Jesse Rosenzweig Elemental Technologies. The company pioneered the coding and transmission of Internet video was acquired in 2015 by giant Amazon for $ 296 million resulting in the birth of AWS Elemental (integrated in Amazon Web Services).
“AWS Elemental has lost a passionate, visionary and humble leader and the world has lost an inspiring human being dedicated to community,” the company said in a written statement. “Sam’s spirit will always be at the core of what we do. Sam loved his work, but his greatest love was for his wife and children. Our thoughts are with his family and all those he touched on his journey”, comment the company.
