Atomos: European debut of the Shinobi II, at IBC 2024
IBC 2024 hosts the first appearance in a major broadcast event of the new Shinobi II of Atoms, a 5-inch, 1500-nit HDR monitor aimed at vloggers, creatives, and photographers launched in July of this year.
As a successor of the Shinobi Original, a solution launched in 2019 that has already exceeded more than 100,000 units sold worldwide, the Shinobi II It maintains the main lines of this solution and adds some of the most requested requests by its users. Among them, as he explains Jeromy Young, CEO of Atoms, highlights the Camera Control and a Brighter HDR display: "Controlling the camera required a USB-C port for the widest possible compatibility with the camera and a new, brighter display required a redesign. As a result, Shinobi II has been rebuilt from the ground up for modern mirrorless/DSLR cameras and HDR or SDR video workflows, as well as incredible HDR photo shooting."
Shinobi II is capable of controlling most mirrorless cameras from Canon, Panasonic and Sony through USB-C, as well as Z models CAM E2 via a separate serial cable. With future firmware updates, Atomos plans to support Fujifilm, Nikon, OM System and SIGMA. "We designed the camera's control interface with a focus on common settings that need to be made shot-by-shot. The exposure triangle is an essential element of every photograph, and the Shinobi II has sliders to adjust the lens aperture, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity. With immediate and responsive access to these settings, achieving perfect exposure on the 1500 nits HDR monitor is a piece of cake, especially when used in combination with our powerful monitoring tools. These include histogram, waveform, false color, zebra, focus peak, and zoom," Young says.
Beyond these control functionalities, among which is also the White Balance, the Atomos team has redesigned the device to offer a 30% slim body, a port USB-C and locking cable connectors for HDMI and USB ports. Regarding your screen tactile, this offers 1500 nits peak brightness (50% more than its predecessor), video HDR of 10-bit and Zero-latency photo monitoring. The device debuts at IBC 2024 with a free update that includes the arrival of autofocus and focus tracking functions in both photo and video modes.
Visitors to the Atomos IBC 2024 booth can also see first-hand the latest improvements from Atomos Cloud Studio; Ninja Phone, a silent 10-bit video processor for smartphones initially designed for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max that, in its latest update, has implemented support for iPhone 16/Pro/ProMax models and iPad Pro 11/13", as well as 4K and 4K DCI recording capability in Apple ProRes; New collaborations with Dropbox and Frame.io V4, that will allow you to send Ninja or Shogun filmed content directly to Dropbox, and Sun Dragon, a new LED lighting technology introduced at NAB 2024.
