The prestigious European cultural channel ART France has joined the production of 'Los años nuevos', the third collaboration between Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Movistar Plus+.

The series has just finished filming after touring various locations in the Community of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Lyon and Berlin.

Domingo Corral, Director of Fiction and Entertainment at Movistar Plus+, was excited "to have ARTE France back on board with us. Her vision of content and her enormous experience in producing differential and moving stories will add great value to New years“.

Alexandre Piel, Deputy Head of Drama at ARTE France, said: "We are very happy and honoured to co-produce 'New Years' with Movistar Plus+. first of all because it is a real pleasure to renew our production commitment to our friends at Movistar Plus+ after the two great seasons of Iron. Secondly, because it is an honour to work with such a unique and talented creator and director as Rodrigo Sorogoyen. His way of depicting the chemistry that operates between a woman and a man from their initial meeting on New Year's Eve is fascinating in itself. But not only that, but he dares to make them travel through the years: 10 years over 10 episodes, which revolve around the same moment: New Year's Eve."

International reach

For its part, Nacho Lavilla, producer of Caballo Films, comments that "for Caballo Films, ARTE's entry into the co-production is a great boost and a further step towards strengthening Rodrigo Sorogoyen's career in Europe. We are really happy with the result of these months of filming and now we know that, with the alliance of Movistar Plus+ and ARTE France, the series will have an important and quality international reach".

This is the third collaboration between Movistar Plus+ and Rodrigo Sorogoyen After the successful original series Riot and Blackout. The Madrid-born director is one of the most renowned Spanish filmmakers. His latest film, As Bestas, received multiple awards, including nine Goya Awards (including Best Film, Director and Original Screenplay) and the César Award for Best Foreign Film.

Rodrigo Sorogoyen directs four of the ten 50-minute episodes that make up the series, and the other six have been directed by Sandra Romero (3 episodes) and David Martín de los Santos (3 episodes). New years, is written by Sara Cano, Paula Fabra and Sorogoyen himself. Marina Rodríguez Colás and Antonio Rojano also participate in the script.

The series stars Iria del Río and Francesco Carril who play Ana and Óscar, the main couple. This series marks Sorogoyen's return to a theme, that of relationships, which has always interested the filmmaker and has been present in a large part of his filmography. In 'The New Years', the journey through ten years will draw the portrait of a decade in the lives of the protagonists, influenced by their immediate environment and by current events.
