'Operación Triunfo' passes the streaming test: its 85% of recurring viewers ensures a new edition on Prime Video
Prime Video confirms that there will be a new installment of the 'Operación Triunfo' stage (Gestmusic) via streaming after confirming the suitability of the format, the weekly monitoring of the audience and becoming the most watched national premiere in the history of the service in Spain.
Triumph operation, Prime Video's first live daily content in Spain has been enjoyed by more than 3.5 million unique viewers estimated during the fourteen weeks. The talent show has established a viewing habit among fans, with an average of 85% of viewers returning weekly to enjoy each gala, and has attracted a large number of new followers throughout the program, which has led the Amazon platform to renew the format for a new season.
In the words of Prime Video itself, this edition of Operación Triunfo has broken “all records” and has become a “authentic phenomenon” on social networks. Several data support the claim of the streaming and video on demand platform: the official app of the program has recorded a total of 1.6 million users, surpassing the previous record of 820,000 registrations in the 2017 and 2018 editions; A total of 8.6 million weekly votes were obtained for Gala 10, beating the all-time high of 3.6 million in 2018, and 5.6 million votes have been registered for the final.
Fans of the program have also continued like never before with the channel 24 hours a day. YouTube, surpassing the record of live audience consumption since its implementation in 2017 with more than 180,000 users connected to see the distribution of Gala 6 songs, and, during the galas, hashtags about the program have obtained the first position in the list of X trends every Monday, on many occasions monopolizing the top ten positions.
Additionally, TikTok, which created at the beginning of the program the first Featured Entertainment Space in Spain offering fans Operación Triunfo content, has registered more than 80,000 publications, including 12,000 videos using the official effect of the program, and 5 billion views of the trend #OT2023, positioning itself as the main source of entertainment on the platform during the program. The next event will be the OT 2023 tour that will take place this summer in 10 cities in Spain including, among others, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Seville.
Operation Triumph exceeds “all expectations”
James Farrell, vice president of local original content at Prime Video, does not hesitate to affirm that the Gestmusic format has exceeded “all expectations” of the platform, marking “a before and after in the history of Prime Video globally.” María José Rodríguez, head of original content for Prime Video in Spain, supports her colleague's words: “We are delighted that Operación Triunfo has become an event, a moment of reunion for families and friends during these three months. (…) We are excited to offer a new edition of Operación Triunfo on Prime Video to all fans of a format that has proven to be more alive than ever.”
On the other hand, Tinet Rubira, director of Gestmusic (Banijay Iberia) who in an interview in Panorama Audiovisual at the beginning of 2023 already anticipated that the future of Operación Triunfo could be on digital platforms, said: “Once again Operación Triunfo has made television history. “Prime Video and Gestmusic have been the first in the world to offer great live entertainment on a streaming service for fourteen weeks, and we have done so successfully.”
