Sony anticipates how the centenary of Columbia Pictures will be celebrated, which releases a commemorative logo
On January 10, 2024, the centennial of Columbia Pictures, a company part of Sony Pictures Entertainment which presents its new commemorative logo and several initiatives to commemorate the anniversary.
Columbia Pictures was founded by brothers Harry and Jack Cohn, and their best friend Joe Brandt, on January 10, 1924. After Frank's classic Capra It Happened One Night sweep the Oscars, Columbia Pictures established itself as an elite studio, responsible for numerous films from award-winning films to timeless classics and pop culture phenomena such as It Happened One Night, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, You Can’t Take it With You, Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, From Here to Eternity, On The Waterfront, Lawrence of Arabia, To Sir With Love, Funny Girl, Taxi Driver, Tootsie, The Karate Kid, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Men In Black, Ghostbusters, Boyz n the Hood, Groundhog Day, A League Of Their Own, The Social Network, Jumanji, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, Little Women, Spider-Man, and many more.
One hundred years later, the studio will promote different initiatives in 2024, such as the premiere of a new logo inspired by “The Lady with the Torch,” the historical and timeless iconography of Columbia Pictures. An accentuated glow on the torch symbolizes the celebration of 100 years of rich history of Columbia Pictures, “from humble origins to becoming one of the leading film studios, recognized for producing pioneering, award-winning films that boldly reflect the social issues of the times,” notes Sony.
Columbia will also celebrate its centenary with the luxury publishing house Assouline, which will launch a commemorative book which will highlight 100 iconic Columbia Pictures moments. Additionally, the study will screenings at festivals, live soundtrack concerts of outstanding films and will also offer exclusive entertainment products that celebrate the extension of the study's inventory.
Tom Rothman, president and CEO of Sony Pictures' Motion Picture Group, thus values the milestone that represents the 100 years of life of Columbia: “There is one thing that distinguishes a great studio from all other content producers: history. In Columbia, that history is reflected in the countless cultural relics created by thousands of people over 100 years. “All of us at Columbia are proud of that legacy and it is an honor to celebrate it.”
