CCMA will invest 11 million euros in 3Cat, an OTT of content in Catalan that will be developed by Mediapro and Inetum
A UTE formed by Mediapro e Inetum has been awarded the proposal for the management, design, development and maintenance of the audiovisual and transmedia content platform 3Cat (CCMA).
The new OTT 3Cat, an initiative framed in the CCMA Strategic Plan To lead the Catalan corporation to be leaders and references in the digital world, it seeks to be able to adapt the contents and the form of distribution to current consumption habits and audiovisual experiences. All this, while highlighting its role as active agent of the Catalan language, it becomes a connector shaft between agents of the audiovisual sector, and support talent for the production and distribution of content in Catalan.
In this sense, CCMA will invest 11.723.192 € to improve your content platform Catalan “universal access, free, capable of competing with the large platforms”, also guaranteeing citizens' access to content in the digital environment. This project, awarded to a joint venture formed by Mediapro and Inentum, 3Cat will offer video and audio on demand; live channels; generation functionalities community and interactive; video game, y educational content, among other cultural and audiovisual assets.
The launch of 3Cat is also proposed as a “collaborative platform” open to alliances with other platforms, the audiovisual sector, public facilities and content creators in Catalan in order to serve as a driving force for the Catalan audiovisual industry and production.
A launch in two phases
In the first phase from 3Cat, CCMA will offer a wide range of video and audio content on demand which add up to a total of 85,000 catalog hours. Some of them will be exclusive to the platform, while others will be aggregated from TV3 content, CàtRàdio stations, SX3's children's offering and EVA's content for the youngest. Those interested will be able to access the content through their connected television (via application or HbbTV); with its application developed for iOS and Android, or through the browser via 3cat.cat.

The second phase, which will be developed by the UTE formed by Mediapro and Inentum, aims to be a qualitative leap by adding user customization, cutting-edge functionalities and a user experience similar to the rest of international market platforms. As Panorama Audiovisual has learned, the professionals from the awarded companies will provide internal support to the CCMA team, which is currently conceptualizing, directing and managing the platform. However, external support will allow developments to be undertaken with greater guarantees to be able to function in parallel to the rapid pace of technological developments in the market.
Innovations and developments of the second phase of 3Cat
Among the main milestones that CCMA will be able to promote with the joint venture of Mediapro and Inentum in 3Cat the expansion to all types of technologies such as Samsung, LG, Android TV, Apple TV o Amazon Fire; the incorporation of elements of gamification; the improvement of the content metadata, basis for recommendations; an optimization of the search engine quality; functionalities participatory and interactive, y DRM, a non-negotiable requirement for large producers and distributors.
CCMA seeks to incorporate all the necessary functionalities and gateways to open 3Cat to third parties.
This last element underlines CCMA's intention to incorporate all the functionalities and gateways necessary to open up to third parties through aggregation or giving up spaces so that cultural, social agents and independent creators can have their own distribution window within 3Cat.
