Víctor Erice, Donostia Award at the 71st San Sebastián Film Festival
Director Víctor Erice will receive the Donostia Award at the 71st edition of the San Sebastián Film Festival. He will receive the award on September 29 from actress Ana Torrent and his latest film, 'Close Your Eyes', will be screened. The filmmaker's recognition coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Golden Shell for 'The Spirit of the Hive'.
The career of Víctor Erice (Karrantza, Bizkaia. 1940) has always had an echo in the San Sebastián Festival. His directorial debut, filming one of the three episodes of The challenges (1969) along with José Luis Egea and Claudio Guerín, was selected in the Official Section and received the Silver Shell for best direction.
Four years later, with his first solo feature film, The spirit of the hive (1973), was recognized with the Golden Shell. The quince sun (1992) was selected in the Made in Spain section, after receiving the Jury and International Critics Prize at Cannes, and the collective film Ten Minutes Older: The Trumpet He was part of the Zabaltegi section in 2002.
Finally, the Festival will host Close the eyes, after passing through the Cannes and Toronto festivals, a film about memory spun around an unfinished film and the mysterious disappearance of an actor, which will be screened after the Donostia Award gala.
The actress Ana Torrent, who starred The spirit of the hive when he was six years old and has returned to work with Erice in Close the eyes, will present the statuette to the director.
