Peñíscola Remember Fest revives the 90s with Blackmagic Design
He Peñíscola Remember Fest is a record-breaking music festival that revives the spirit of '90s dance music with names like Kate Ryan and Linda Mertens of Milk INC. We go behind the scenes with CS Stream to discover how the festival was technically made and distributed.
Peñíscola Remember Fest is a festival on the shores of the Mediterranean that, in its second edition, brought together more than 4,500 people with a lineup made up of performances and artists of electronic dance music from the 90s.
Organized by Rememberos y RASER Events, also had the help of the local council, led by Andrés Martínez. The festival has already made a name for itself on the scene thanks to its careful sound and visual production, with more than 80 square meters of LED screens ready to be fed with top-level content.
“Our technical deployment has been three times greater than last year,” begins Carlos Andrés Blandón, technical director and CEO of CS Stream. “By doubling the number of attendees and going for a more ambitious event, we had to design and execute a larger and more extensive production workflow, including graphics, broadcast management and powering the festival's LED screens.”
Blandón founded CS Stream to respond to the needs of the world of nightlife. It began its journey in 2017 by streaming some of the sessions of the most prominent DJs, and later expanded its purpose to provide comprehensive services working hand in hand with world-class production companies such as NEP Group or Spanish television networks such as RTVE or Antena 3.
Throughout this journey, Blandón has trusted in the solutions of Blackmagic Design. “Blackmagic has helped us a lot to grow as a company; Their equipment has always proven to be versatile and capable of withstanding the rigors and demands of performing live events,” he comments.
URSA Broadcast G2 and Mini Pro 4.6 G2, at Peñíscola Remember Fest
For the acquisition, CS Stream used a mixed camera package consisting of the URSA Broadcast G2 with URSA scopes and the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2. There were two positions in front of the camera, with an additional crane for close-ups. The panoramic shots of the audience were taken with a drone.
“The dual native ISO sensor of the URSA Broadcast G2 has greatly improved image quality, giving us more sharpness and light without straining the sensor. We started with very harsh light, at two in the afternoon, and finished at three in the morning. But regardless of the lighting conditions, the result was always fantastic,” says Blandón, who also highlights the great operability of the cameras.
Signals from these cameras and other capture devices were transmitted back to the video village via fiber optics and routed to a live production switcher. ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K, where the signals from the cameras on the stage and the adjacent interview area were mixed.
The temporary video village of CS Stream it was based on a couple of routers Smart Videohub 20×20 for signal management.
“The festival site is right next to the sea, so space is limited. We set up a mobile gallery from scratch in a nearby location and the Blackmagic equipment allowed us to adapt. I always say they are chameleons. Additionally, we work in difficult conditions, such as humidity, morning dew and salt fog. However, the thermal dissipation of the equipment worked very well,” explains Blandón.
ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, key equipment
The gallery also incorporated a ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, with switches SuperSource used to handle the signal picture in picture, which featured up to four layers of graphic overlays. The ATEM Mini Extreme ISO powered the almost 80 square meters of LED walls from the festival stage.
“With more than three dozen screens of different sizes it was not an easy task, but we did it thanks to the technical support of the company BPM Só i Llum, directed by Manu García. “Everything went perfectly both technically and creatively,” adds the technical director and CEO of CS Stream.
A mix of the program was broadcast from the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO and distributed to the social networks of Rememberos, a Remember Radio.es and the broadcaster team Castellón TV, directed by Guillermo Mon from the company Emision Local, through a link solution GSM 4G para live broadcast.
“The festival has been a tremendous success. I could see the audience, including the organizers, enjoying the spirit of the festival, dancing and singing. It is priceless,” says Blandón.
“The technical deployment that we have carried out has guaranteed the fulfillment of our promises to the client of offering high-quality production values for dissemination,” he concludes. “They have already contacted us to support the festival in 2024 and I am sure that we will once again exceed all expectations as the festival grows.”
