Domestika: new courses with the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro

Recently, Domestika has expanded its workflow with multiple units Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. Thomas Esteras, production director at Domestika, opted for these models after several tests showed advantages such as its sensor Super 35 6K, dual native ISO, neutral density filters, 5th generation colorimetry or the “notorious camera performance for prolonged filming periods.”

Many of Domestika's shoots are structured around three cameras: "As a rule, we provide a general shot combined with a shorter medium shot on the same axis and another from a higher angle. Then, if more details are needed, we complement it with a closer lateral shot." The capabilities of the Pocket Cinema 6K Pro are perfectly suited to this production format, according to Esteras: "It was essential to be able to find a camera set that was lightweight and versatile, but at the same time did not compromise quality. In general, we use an ISO value of 1250 and overexpose the images. This provides significant margin in post-production to recover details in the shadows and black areas of the image, while using false color controls to avoid loss of information in the highlights."

Post-production with DaVinci

Domestika is committed to recording most of the content in ProRes 422 HQ, while the Blackmagic Raw It is used for situations in which reframing is necessary in post-production. Images from each camera are stored on an external SSD drive and then transferred to a RAID 5 hard drive for later transcoding and backup to the local NAS server.

Subsequently, the company post-produces the pieces in different workstations with DaVinci Resolve Studio, which is in charge of both the editing and grading of the material: "The performance of DaVinci together with its collaboration tools gives editors and colorists the possibility of working simultaneously on a project, regardless of the content it includes. It is truly revolutionary to be able to have everything in a single program. Not only does the delivery of the material speed up, but it also helps to achieve a better quality of the finished product," concludes Esteras.
