MAP (Morocco) completes transition to IP by bringing Lawo technology to its radio studios
The Moroccan state-owned news agency Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), based in Rabat and founded in 1959, has completed the transition to IP with the installation of several Lawo solutions in its radio production studios.
The technical upgrade covers three radio and two TV studios and is entirely based on IP technology. Lawo was chosen because of the true-IP workflow of its audio mixers, which allow operators to access all available audio sources on the network at a moment’s notice, especially important as MAP serves its international programmes in Arabic, English, French, Spanish and Tamazight (the language of the Berber people).
The ruby consoles, located in the radio’s two control rooms, are the main protagonists of this integration. Hassan Eddahbi, CEO at MAP, does not hesitate to affirm that these consoles “have proven their efficiency and audio quality”. Eddahbi also points out that their workflow “is more intuitive and less involved than competitors’ offerings”, as well as their ability to “quickly switch between the different control rooms and choose the desired environments in record time, whether broadcasting live or recording for later use”.
In addition to the ruby mixing consoles, the MAP radio studios are equipped with the Lawo Power Core DSP mixing engines and I/O nodes. These integrate the studios with the adjacent voice booths, called “studettes”; the setup then interconnects the studios and studettes with MAP’s large Grand Studio at the push of a button: “The project’s requirements were quite challenging,” says Eddahbi, “New technical solutions and customer-defined workflows needed to be matched and fully integrated in the overall network. But we knew we could count on our team and the Lawo engineers – and on Lawo’s IP technology”, adds Eddahbi.
The MAP project was carried out by the Lawo partner in Morocco, LTS Network, based in Casablanca.
