Mediaset Italia updates three of its radio studios with Lawo technology thanks to Aret
The largest Italian commercial broadcaster, Mediaset, has upgraded three of its Virgin Radio studios, deploying three consoles Theirs ruby, a Power Core DSP mixing engine and VisTool visualization and control software, which will be the backbone of a fully IP-based production unit.
Also included are solutions radio virtual RƎLAY from Lawo, which will allow you to work on the air and in production independently of the hardware.
The Power Core mixing engine of the Lawo ruby console is 100% compatible con Ravenna / AES67 and has network link redundancy through the ST2022-7 standard to help ensure uninterrupted broadcasts.
High-density MADI and Ravenna interfaces are both standard, and eight expansion slots allow you to add microphones, lines, AES3, Dante and studio I/O, making ruby the perfect console for broadcasters looking to migrate to AoIP without sacrificing legacy infrastructure.
Lawo VisTool, a sophisticated customizable touchscreen control environment, is the perfect complement to modern radio operations. With context-sensitive on-screen controls, VisTool allows professionals to mix and route audio using the same touch-screen environment as other studio tools, and can even integrate controls from studio applications such as recording systems. broadcast, telephone systems and codecs, directly into the mixing workflow.
High level integration
Arrest, commissioned by Mediaset for the project, and Lawo have collaborated on this project to offer a high-level integration between the ruby console and the VisTool interface. Talent can manage the entire radio environment with a few mouse clicks, and operators can choose between using ruby hardware or the VisTool interface to work virtually in each studio control room.
Los three studios share resources such as codecs, playout and program feeding through Ravenna, with pre-configured logic programming for easy and intuitive operation, presenting a unique configuration that offers efficient, fast and flexible workflows for all talents.
Switching studios is easily done with just two buttons: “Enable” and “Studio xx” – found on the Ryby surface or VisTool screen. The internal matrix of the Lawo Power Core switches the chosen studies to the antenna after analyzing the output signal by DMS and the internal logic.
Even more automation and integrated logic is present in the form of flashing yellow faders on the consoles that inform the operator of program silence. In this state, any operator can quickly and easily check and adjust the audio signal path to get the studio back on the air. If there is no session on air from the control room and silence is detected, the Power Core switches to a backup signal.
According to Aret, the new Virgin Radio studios have provided impeccable service since their launch earlier this year: “Since the launch of the new studios, staff have told us that their intuitive controls and seamless operation make Make the production of your programs easier and smoother than ever. The advantages of an all-IP infrastructure are clear: better technology plus better workflow equals better radio.”
