Onda Cero broadcasts 'Más de uno' live using Orange's 5G network
Orange has promoted, together with Zero Wave, the “first live broadcast of a radio program” using its commercial 5G network.
More than one, directed by journalist Carlos Alsina, has starred in this experience defined as “pioneering.” To make the program, broadcast from a telephone company store, we used 5G NSA (Non StandAlone) the frequency of 3.5GHz and a bandwidth of 60 MHz. The signal has been transmitted in duplicate for redundancy and a fully commercial connection has been used. Both the SIM cards, the CPE routers and the entire network configuration are the ones used by Orange customers.
Among the main benefits of 5G, according to the operator itself, are HD video calls, and lower latency and higher speed for streaming services, virtual reality or gaming. On the sidelines are the promised professional services for broadcasters (with numerous test currently) that will not arrive for several years, taking advantage of edge computing.
Currently, Orange's 5G coverage in Spain exceeds 51% and reaches 778 municipalities in 38 Spanish provinces. The company does not foresee imminent standardization of 5G, as the technology is seen as a “complement” to existing networks.
