Riedel - Commonwealth Games

The 2022 edition of the Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8, will feature radio and communications solutions from Riedel.

As an official radio communications provider, Riedel will use its resources and experience in each of the competitions, including the 16th Queen Elizabeth II Baton Relay, which began in early October 2021 and will travel to 72 nations until the event's opening ceremony. Riedel's technology division will provide guidance and technical support, along with more than 6,000 radio terminals, communication accessories, satellite phones, PoC devices, repeater solutions and one support radio network. This human and technical deployment will be used in all competition venues.

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will bring together 4,500 athletes from 72 nations and territories, competing in 19 sports at 14 venues. As the biggest event ever held in the West Midlands, it is expected to attract more than a million spectators to the city and have a global television audience of 1.5 billion.

Paul Rivens, general director of communications at Riedel (UK), says he is “proud” to “work closely with the organizers of Birmingham 2022 to realize their vision for this fantastic event.” "Riedel and the Commonwealth Games have a strong relationship built on a long history. It is exciting to see how, through the sponsorship and direct involvement of our UK teams, Riedel is helping to make this upcoming event a great success," he adds.

On the other hand, John Dundas, director of radio communications and spectrum planning for Birmingham 2022, welcomes having Riedel as an official supplier: “They bring a wealth of experience in radio communications, and I am sure they will help us organize a successful Games.” Finally, Martin Reynolds, CEO of CGF, adds: “Following Riedel’s work at Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018, we are proud to once again collaborate with Riedel as they become the official radio communications supplier for Birmingham 2022.”
