Disney+ bases its rapid global expansion on the AWS cloud
Disney+, one of the world's largest streaming services, has relied on Amazon Web Services as its preferred public cloud infrastructure provider to support its rapid global growth.
The service promoted by The Walt Disney Company has quickly surpassed 100 million subscribers in just 16 months since its launch in November 2019.
Using AWS's high-performance, fault-tolerant infrastructure, The Walt Disney Company has been able to rapidly expand Disney+ to 59 countries in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.
Disney+ uses 50+ technologies in the AWS cloud, including machine learning, database, storage, content delivery, serverless, and analytics technologies.
For example, Disney+ uses Amazon Kinesis y Amazon DynamoDB to ingest content, metadata, and billions of customer actions every day, allowing viewers to add content to their watchlists and start watching a video and be able to continue watching it on a different device, or make recommendations on what see below.
Disney+ also uses Amazon Timestream (AWS serverless time series database built for real-time ingestion, storage, and querying of time series data) to monitor the effectiveness of your streaming platform and ensure users continue to have access to content of highest quality video.
Leveraging a flexible and secure cloud video infrastructure powered by AWS, Disney+ was able to handle more than 10 million new Disney+ signups within 24 hours of launching on November 12, 2019.
