The Academy awards the challenge of filming 'Adú' in Africa with a Goya
Ana Parra and Luis Fernández Lago win the Goya for best production with the Telecinco Cinema film, one of the winners of this edition.
The Academy of Dinner delivered the Goya for Best Production Direction to the movie Adu con Ana Parra y Luis Fernandez Lago at the forefront of this field. The film was one of the winners of the Spanish cinema night, winning five awards, including Best Director, which was awarded to Sergio Calvo for a work in which a deeply human and current story is told.
Those responsible for production management assured upon receiving the award that “it was the work of a family” and had a memory for “Sergio Gil, Eva Yuste, Bego, Jorge, Carmen and the entire team of people who worked in Spain and in Benin.”
The film had a budget of five million euros with production by Telecinco Cinema, Ikiru Films, La Terraza Films and Un Mundo Prohibido AIE. It was an ambitious project since it was expensive to film in Benin, but they were clear that it was impossible to make this film about Africa without setting foot on the continent.
The film was shot with two cameras ARRI Alexa Mini, which greatly expedited its transportation from Africa. After four weeks of filming in Benin, the crew filmed in Spain, using two ARRI cameras (Alexa SXT y Mini), in locations in Murcia, Melilla and Madrid.
Filming was very physically hard for the cast and crew. The experience of the producer, Edmon Roch, of Ikiru, was key due to his knowledge of the place since he had filmed in Africa. The choice of Benin came because he needed to film in a humid jungle environment that was safe enough for the entire team. The challenge was to find an African country that would allow you to travel from Cameroon to Morocco, passing through Senegal and Mauritania, without leaving the same territory.
Benin is a small country that is not that it is not prepared for a filming but that it is not prepared to receive tourism, and therefore it was a real headache to accommodate 40 people in a place that does not have the logistics or the resources . Adu is, in fact, the first film to be shot in Benin Republic.
Ana Parra has to her credit works such as Champions, A perfect day o Amador. For his part, Luís Fernández Lago, has behind him films such as A perfect day, Invisibles o Mortadelo and Filemon against Jimmy the horny.
