These are the original films that Netflix will produce in Spain in 2021 and 2022
Netflix announces the start of production of two new Spanish films and reviews the local cinema that will come throughout 2021 and from 2022.
The platform Netflix has made public that it will film in Spain two new movies while reviewing the local content that will arrive throughout 2021 and from 2022 onwards.
Among these productions stands out The beast, David Casademunt's debut film, starring Inma Cuesta (The mess you leave), Roberto Álamo and Asier Flores (Pain and Glory). The film began filming at the beginning of February in an impressive moor in the province of Teruel. The location is “a fundamental element to delve into the story,” highlight its producers Joaquín Padró, Mar Targarona and Marina Padró, who convey their enthusiasm for working again with new talents such as director David Casademunt and co-writers Fran Menchón and Martí Lucas , and “in the genre we like the most: horror.”
The beast tells the story of a family that lives isolated from the rest of society and whose tranquility is disturbed by the presence of a terrifying creature that will test the ties that unite them. Produced by Roll and Roll, the film was part of the first edition of La Incubadora de ECAM.
The crystal girls
On February 8, the filming of The crystal girls, the new film by director Jota Linares for Netflix after Who would you take to a desert island?, who once again features María Pedraza as the protagonist. The actress and dancer steps into the shoes of Irene, the replacement for the great star of the National Classical Ballet after the latter's unexpected suicide, under the orders of choreographer Antonio Ruz.
The film, written by Jota Linares himself and Jorge Naranjo, has a cast of new actors headed by Paula Losada, all of them professional dancers, along with whom we will also see Mona Martínez, Marta Hazas, Ana Wagener, Olivia Baglivi, Juanjo Almeida and Fernando Delgado.
A luxury cast for the director's most personal project: “The film speaks through fiction of all my obsessions and about my need, like that of my entire generation, to find a place in the world. “I really wanted to talk about fear and the places we unconsciously create to protect ourselves from it.”
Produced by Federation Spain, the Spanish subsidiary of the international Federation, which is committed to alliances with new talents seeking to consolidate themselves at a national and international level, as pointed out by Nacho Manubens, producer of the film along with Juan Solá, Toni Sevilla and Mark Albela.
A thousand miles from Christmas
Also in February, the Christmas comedy directed by Álvaro Fernández Armero resumed filming A thousand miles from Christmas. First in Arties, a small town located in the Arán Valley, and then in Benasque and other nearby towns in the province of Huesca. The film, produced by Kiko Martínez (Secret Origins) and Nobody is perfect, will extend its production for a few more weeks across different locations in Segovia, Madrid and Guadalajara. Along with the film's protagonist, Tamar Novas (The Mess You Leave), we will be able to see Andrea Ros (Who would you take to a desert island?), Peter Vives (Velvet, The time between seams), Fermí Reixach (The day's cold light) and Verónica Forqué (Christmas days) .
What's to come
Starting with the imminent premiere this Friday, February 26, Crazy for her, directed by Dani de la Orden and starring the Goya nominee for Best Supporting Actor for Adú Álvaro Cervantes and the Feroz nominee for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series for Patria Susana Abaitua, throughout 2021 they will also reach Netflix other Spanish film releases already announced previously.
Among these premieres we find the romantic comedy We were songs, based on Elísabet Benavent's best-selling biography Canciones y memorias, although retaining the name of the first novel, and produced by Zeta Studios. The film is directed by Juana Macías, nominated for the Goya Award for Best New Director for her film Planes for Tomorrow and director of the successful film Under the Same Roof, and has Laura Sarmiento as screenwriter. The cast is headed by María Valverde (Three meters above the sky, I want you, The weakness of the Bolshevik) and Álex González (The Prince, Living without permission, Land of wolves) together with Elísabet Casanovas (Merlin), Susana Abaitua (Crazy for her), Eva Ugarte and Miri Pérez-Cabrero.
Xtremo, an action thriller starring martial arts specialist actor Teo García, Óscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series, Gold, Loving Pablo, Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides), Oscar Casas (Jaguar, Always Witch, Instinct), Andrea Duro (Velvet Collection, The cathedral of the sea), Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Rambo: Last Blood, Cathedral of the Sea, Isabel) and Alberto Jo Lee, among others.
Directed by Daniel Benmayor (Welcome to Eden), written by Iván Ledesma and based on a story by Teo García and Genaro Rodríguez. The film has the special collaboration of the actors who have won one and three Goya Awards respectively, Luis Zahera and Juan Diego, and is produced by Showrunner Films, a production company founded by Vicente Canales and Julieta Videla.
And starting in 2022, Netflix will premiere Centaur, the adrenaline-filled thriller directed by Daniel Calparsoro (One hundred years of forgiveness), based on the original film Burn Out, and starring Àlex Monner (Living without permission, The next skin), Begoña Vargas (Welcome to Eden, High Seas) and Carlos Bardem (Pickpockets, Celda 211). Y Mother's Love, a comedy directed by Paco Caballero (Losing the East) and starring Carmen Machi (Criminal) and Quim Gutiérrez (The neighbor), who play a young man who has just been left at the altar and his mother, who decides to accompany him on his honeymoon so as not to lose the travel money.
