Camera to Cloud offers film, television and advertising productions a new seamless way to connect the film set with the editing rooms.

The cloud-based video review and approval platform Frame.io prepares the launch of its new service Camera to Cloud (C2C), a secure workflow cloud camera which will allow users to instantly upload and transmit images from cameras on set to creative post-production teams anywhere in the world.

Frame.io C2C to offer starting next spring two unique services. First of all, C2C allows the instant loading of proxies the moment the cameras stop rolling, so that the newsroom can begin working on the material immediately.

Additionally, Frame.io C2C can broadcast live images to an authorized user's device, both on and off set, allowing customers to view the production live. This is ideal for productions working during the COVID pandemic as it greatly reduces the number of people needed on set. Frame.io C2C allows writing and other traditionally linear parts of the creative process to happen in parallel while filming continues.

Getting footage from a camera into post-production is a time-consuming process that requires backing up files, transferring them to a hard drive, and sending them to another facility.

Frame.io C2C eliminates all of this, allowing customers to simultaneously view a live image stream while it is rolling, while proxies are automatically captured and uploaded as soon as the camera stops rolling.

The camera-to-cloud workflow requires a Frame.io C2C certified device connected to compatible cameras from Arri, RED y Sony. Once authenticated, certified devices, such as the Teradek CUBE 655 and the recorders Sound Devices 888 o Scorpio, they will record, encode and send files proxy H.264 with accurate timecodes and metadata matching the file name directly to Frame.io over a secure, encrypted connection using LTE, 5G or WiFi. This allows the near real-time delivery of editable proxy files to a producer, installation of dailies or editor anywhere in the world.

Michael Cioni, Global SVP of Innovation at Frame.io, highlights that the new technology is “disruptive as it changes the traditionally linear filming process, allowing both on-set production and remote post-production teams to work together at the same time. “This level of collaboration brings creative teams together and allows them to work faster and more collaboratively than ever before.”

This allows collaborators to share ideas instantly to help bring their creative vision to life, while everyone who needs to track production progress can stay informed.

Emery Wells, CEO of Frame.io, emphasizes that “in today's socially distanced world, where remote work has become the norm and the number of people on set is limited, Frame.io C2C represents a game changer. “Camera to Cloud offers film, television and commercial productions a seamless new way for creative teams to do their best work, no matter where they are.”
