DAZN arrives on Movistar+
DAZN acquires the exclusive exploitation of the rights to Formula 1 and will offer all the coverage of the world championship on its platform, while Movistar+ will continue to offer this competition to its customers through the DAZN F1 channel.
Movistar+ and DAZN, the live and on-demand sports streaming platform, have reached an agreement to offer more sports content to its customers. The alliance entails the distribution of DAZN content through new channels on Movistar+. Thanks to this agreement, DAZN acquires the exclusive exploitation of the World Cup of F1 in Spain until 2023, a competition that can be enjoyed on DAZN and through the new DAZN F1 channel, which will be available to customers of both platforms from March 1.
This agreement will integrate the DAZN platform into Movistar+ throughout this year. This new alliance of Movistar joins those already consolidated with other content platforms such as Netflix or Disney+ and reaffirms Movistar as the leader in the entertainment market in Spain with an unrivalled sports offer. For its part, DAZN, which is already present in more than 200 countries and territories, has closed strategic collaboration agreements in 2020 with operators and pay TV channels such as Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom and Telefónica O2 in Germany, Vodafone in Italy and KDDI in Japan, in order to facilitate the experience and access to all sports fans.
Movistar Premium customers and those who already had Formula 1 content in their offer will be able to access DAZN content from Thursday, January 21 through the new DAZN 1 (dial 59) and DAZN 2 (dial 60) channels, and other multi-event channels that will be incorporated to cover all competitions. Among the most outstanding competitions offered by DAZN are the Premier League, the MotoGP World Cup, Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the Copa del Rey, UFC, the CONMEBOL Libertadores, the EuroCup basketball, the WTA circuit or the Coppa Italiana.
After this agreement, DAZN will offer all the coverage of the World Cup on its streaming platform. In addition, as of March 1, DAZN will distribute the DAZN F1 channel that Movistar+ will offer to all its Premium customers and those who already enjoy the Formula 1 option. Thanks to the signing of Carlos Sainz by Ferrari and with the return of Fernando Alonso to the World Championship, Movistar+ and DAZN users will experience one of the most anticipated seasons in recent years.
Emilio Gayo, president of Telefónica Spain, points out that "this alliance with DAZN reinforces our sports offer and will enrich the experience of all sports fans. This relationship reaffirms our commitment to always offer our clients the best proprietary content, through our original production and the most relevant content, through the partners that lead the audiovisual industry. DAZN is now coming to Movistar+, an alliance that will celebrate all the successes of sport".
For its part, James Rushton, co-CEO of DAZN, said: "The agreement with Movistar+ is a great example of how entertainment platforms and operators can collaborate to deliver a more satisfying and intuitive experience for sports fans. This is also an important time for our company and is part of our strategy to drive further growth in our core markets. From March, our customers in Spain will enjoy extensive coverage of F1, making DAZN the go-to platform for motorsport fans in Spain."
