Netflix breaks down the number of subscribers by region for the first time
The main markets for the platform are: the United States (67.1 million subscribers), Europe (37.8), Latin America (29.4) and Asia-Pacific (14.5).
At the request of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (US Securities and Exchange Commission) Netflix has for the first time offered detailed information on its worldwide subscriber base.
Many investors have been concerned about the state of the video streaming market in the US, as Netflix has focused on the US market since its inception, and competitors are beginning to challenge the company. In fact, as soon as the information became known, the streaming giant's stock market grew by 3%.
Over the past two years, Netflix has continued to grow in USA, going from 58.4 million at the end of 2017 to 67.1 million at the end of the third quarter of 2019.
However, growth abroad has been much faster. In its European segment, Netflix went from having 26 million subscribers at the end of 2017 to 37.8 millions in the last quarter. In Latin America, the same figures went from 19.7 million to 29.4 million, and in the region of Pacific Asia, Netflix now has 14.5 million of subscribers, compared to 6.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Netflix has had to deal with increasing currency impacts as a result of its international business, which has added some volatility to its revenue figures. Now, all eyes are on emerging ones like Disney+ and Apple TV. Aware of this challenge, the platform has accelerated its commitment to original content with huge investments in titles like The Crown o Stranger Things. Last year it invested more than $12 billion in new series, movies and documentaries, which represents approximately 70% of its income. A game that this 2019, which is now ending, could reach 15,000 million.
