ATG Danmon Completes Cardiff University's New News Studies
Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies now has two studios with their respective completion controls.
ATG Danmon has just launched the new news studies at the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies of the Cardiff University. The project coincides with the move to a new premises in the city centre, located next to the BBC premises.
Cardiff University will use this service to train the next generation of television, radio, internet and print journalists. This project has been carried out in collaboration with CJP Broadcast Service Solution, based in Herefordshire.
ATG Danmon CEO, Russell Peirson-Hagger, comments that "we were invited to propose a turnkey solution based on a specification scheme provided by the university. The project comprised a large television studio and production control as well as a smaller television studio with associated control, as well as a radio and television newsroom. Both controls connect via SDI to media, graphics and automation Vizrt. The project has also integrated Avid iNews“.
"The system connects to a news presentation package where a remote-controlled camera and two-way video feed allow the anchor to speak to a newsroom reporter. The systems simulate the functionality and processes of a real broadcast environment," he adds.
"We worked in partnership with staff at CJP and Cardiff University to design and integrate a complete solution that would stay within budget and provide the specified level of functionality that teaching staff require. This was successfully achieved before the students returned after the summer break," says Peirson-Hagger.
The project
Systems designed and installed for the large studio and its control include studio lighting under control from a DMX console, performance control furniture, multi-screen (with audio) with 55-inch screens, two-way communications between the control and the studio, wireless communication with the presenter and teleprompter.
The new equipment was integrated with existing elements, including dual lighting systems, three studio cameras, Vizrt Studio Automationone mixer Ross Video (formerly supplied by ATG Danmon) and an audio mixing console Yamaha.
The smaller of the two television studios is a single-camera version of the large studio, with similar infrastructure. ATG Danmon provided and integrated a single-lane lighting stand with wired, control room automation with Opus de Vizrt and a Yamaha audio mixing console.
In addition, ATG Danmon recommended and integrated a mainframe Ross Video Ultrix, Ross glue, Blackmagic OpenGear analog to SDI and Blackmagic Teranex SD/HD/UHD for standards conversion. A camera system and two-way control, broadcast quality monitors and conversations, along with all the wiring of the infrastructure from the study room to the central apparatus room has also been provided.
Other system-specific components include a camera Blackmagic Ursa Broadcast with lens Fujinon, Blackmagic multi-display and studio monitors, wireless microphones Shure, Blackmagic Video Recording HyperDeck, teleprompting Autoscript WinPlus-IP, plus control desks with custom consoles and monitor stands.
