In total there will be 25 presentations and 4 panels in which reports, proposals and visions on this new technology will be offered, which brings together experts from all over the world in Malaga for three days.

4K Summit 2018

Medina Media Events, organizer of the 4K-HDR Summit, has published the final agenda for the fifth edition of the main world summit on 4K, which will be held on November 6, 7 and 8 at the Digital Content Pole in Malaga.

This summit, which has Panorama Audiovisual as a media partner, will have a total of 25 presentations and 4 panels in which reports, proposals and visions will be offered on this new technology, which for three days brings together in Malaga the best speakers from other international forums such as the NABShow in Las Vegas, the IBC in Amsterdam and the MIPCOM in Cannes.

In addition to the presentations and panels, this year the 4K-HDR Summit will pay tribute to Toni Feliu, Senior Manager at Panasonic (Thursday, November 7 at 5:45 p.m.); already Luis Martinez, Director of Programs at Canal Sur Málaga (Friday, November 8 at 1:35 p.m.); two very dear colleagues in the audiovisual sector who have recently passed away.

Within the framework of this international summit, the constitution of the UHD Spain Association (non-profit association of which companies and professionals interested in the development of Ultra High Definition in Spain may join), and the Málaga 4K Fest Short Film Festival awards gala, at the Albéniz Cinema from 7:00 p.m. (free access until capacity is reached).

The best analysts in 4K and 8K

The opening day will begin with the presentation of Maria Rua, international analyst at IHS Markit, based in London, who will share with attendees a report on the global evolution of 4K.

Nacho Monge, TV&AV Marketing Director Iberia de la multinacional coreana Samsung será el segundo ponente en intervenir, para exponer el primer contenido deportivo 8K HDR10+ producido en España junto a Repsol Honda Team de Moto GP.

Mohammed Hamza, principal analista de la americana S&P Global, volverá a la 4K-HDR Summit para presentar, en esta ocasión, un informe exclusivo sobre la tecnología 4K, que está revolucionando el mercado de los “smartphones”.

Michel Chabrol, Senior Vice President New TV Formats from Eutelsat (France) will offer an exclusive report on the satellites' ability to transmit in 4K and 8K UHD.

On the other hand, the Canadian Ross Video, represented by Nestor Amaya, Vice President of Infrastructure, will explain the pragmatic video signal relay infrastructure using 12G-SDI and IP for 4K UHD production.

12G-SDI is a solution used for video broadcast system by audiovisual companies to reduce the weight and complexity of the system, eliminating dozens of cables in 4K UHD productions. The 12G-SDI transmission system allows working with 4K up to 60fps.

Olivier Watzke, Product Manager at Product Management Group of the American Dolby, will present a next-generation audio experience. Watzke will explain how Next Generation Audio delivers an exciting surround sound experience for listeners on all types of devices, from TV to mobile.

After the midday cocktail offered by Axión, where the 250 exclusive attendees at the 4K-HDR Summit in Málaga will be able to enjoy local products thanks to the collaboration of Diputación de Málaga and Sabor a Málaga “El Sabor que nos une” while networking, Nicolas Lecocq, Senior Manager Video Business of Movistar+ will present and talk to the public about the second season of one of the most acclaimed Spanish series in recent times: La Peste.

Prashant Chothani, CEO of TravelXP India, will announce “the new limits for operators in 4K HDR and 8K HDR.”

Pablo Alemán, Managing Director of Wild Stories, will participate in the Malaga Summit, a company that represents exceptional content from independent producers, telling spectacular stories of nature, wildlife, travel, human interest and lifestyle.

On the other hand, Amos Rozenberg, CEO de la productora francesa Paramax Films, hablará sobre retransmisiones de festivales de Jazz en 4K y 8K. Paramax Films es una productora especializada en la filmación y distribución de conciertos en todo el mundo. Tienen más de 100 horas de conciertos de jazz, pop, rock en Full HD con prestigiosos artistas (Macy Gray, Maroon 5, Sly & Robbie, Justin Bieber, Will I am, Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cents etc).

The first day will conclude with an “opening party” sponsored by Tedial, where attendees will enjoy Cerveza Victoria, a beer with all the flavor and character of the city of Malaga.

NASA and Tokyo 2020

The second day of the 4K-HDR Summit will begin with the spectacular presentation of Carlos Fontanot, director of images for NASA's International Space Station (ISS), who will return from the Johnson Space Center to the capital of the Costa del Sol to talk about the use of 4K and 8K aboard the ISS, the challenges of downloading files to the ground, the impact of gamma rays on sensors, the training that crew members receive, and working with commercial partners to distribute and widely use NASA material.

From the Norwegian Appear, Sergio Renteria y Javier Reyes, will explain the challenges and learnings in the compression and transport of UHD signals. Based on use cases across different operators, Appear will present an innovative approach. In their speech, Sergio Renteria and Javier Reyes will talk about challenges and benefits for operators obtained from a diverse range of applications, such as the first transmission of an 8K live event, low latency links and high availability for sporting events.

The first panel of the 4K-HDR Summit will be given by Guy Ducos, Business Development Consultant at Philips (Netherlands); Matthew Causon, EMEA Business Manager at AJA Video Systems (USA); and Miguel Churruca, Marketing and Communications Director of Brainstorm, who will discuss new solutions for 4K and 8K technology.

Peter Sykes, Strategic Technology Development Manager of the Japanese multinational Sony, will be another of the speakers at this fifth edition.

Sykes, who repeats as a speaker at the 4K-HDR Summit, will participate in the second day of this international summit on 4K and 8K, on ​​November 7, explaining the workflows used at Sony for the creation and delivery of Ultra HD images with High Dynamic Range (HDR).

On the other hand, Emili Planas, CTO Operations Manager of Mediapro will talk about the company's experience acquired during two and a half years of top-level sports productions in UHD-HDR and the keys to obtaining spectacular images in HDR, taking into account that at the moment the most important signal continues to be HD-SDR.

Peer Seitz, head of production at Infront Productions (HBS) in Switzerland, will present at the 4K-HDR Summit in Malaga the successful 5G-connected camera setup tests that took place at the 2019 BMW Berlin Marathon last September. It is the first time that such a configuration has been implemented in continental Europe, on a live public 5G network.

One of the highlights of the 4K-HDR Summit will be the presentation of Stefan Hofmann, Manager Sales Engenieering Live Operation de Panasonic.

The Japanese multinational will have a relevant role in 2020, a year in which it will be one of the technological protagonists of the Tokyo Olympic Games, of which it is a sponsor and main supplier with the cameras that will generate the signal that will be transmitted in Ultra High Definition (UHD) to the entire world.

Hofmann will explain at the Summit how a team of more than 300 Panasonic engineers have been working for months at the headquarters of NHK, the Japanese public television, in charge of producing the signal that will be offered to the entire world through free-to-air channels, pay channels such as Eurosport, platforms such as Twitter or DAZN, etc.

The second day will continue with the panel where Carlos Castan, Industrial Products Manager Broadcast and Cinema Dept. of Canon; and Salvador Luna, Optical Devices Manager of Fujinon (both Japanese multinationals), will share the success stories of both companies.

After the greeting of Victor Muñoz, Vice Chancellor of Strategic Projects of the University of Malaga (UMA), it will be the turn of the universities.

Jose Manuel Menendez, Full Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid; will present the Ultra High Definition (UHD) Chair they are carrying out together with RTVE, a presentation that will be joined by José Manuel Sanz, Multimedia Engineering Department of Cellnex.

On the other hand, the writer Francisco José Espinosa, representing Tilano TV, will talk about “4K for beginners.”

The UHD Alliance, the UHD Forum and 5G

After the welcome breakfast, sponsored by Ultra HD Forum and Canal Sur, the presentations and panels of the closing day of this international summit will begin.

Rafael Porras, president of Canal Sur, will offer a greeting, and later it will be the turn of intervention of Michael Zink, Chairman of UHD Alliance and Thierry Fautier, president of the UHD Forum, who will jointly participate in a panel where they will talk about UHDA and UHDF.

Next, consumer electronics giants, represented by the 8K Association, will showcase the 8K ecosystem.

Richard Moreton, from Samsung Electronics Research Institute UK, representing the 8K Association (8KA), will talk about the maturation of the 8K ecosystem and its creation value within the current landscape of device manufacturing and Ultra High Definition content production.

Juan Pachon, Technical Sales Manager de Rohde & Schwarz (Alemania); e Inés Sanz, Customer Engineering Manager of Hispasat, will speak in a panel about the opportunities that 5G offers to 4K transmissions thanks to its greater power, capacity and speed, and with practically no delay, which opens up endless possibilities to exploit audiovisual content, and especially high-quality Ultra High Definition (UHD).

The finishing touch to the presentations at the 4K-HDR Summit 2019 will be given by the prestigious international analyst from IHS Markit, Paul Gray, which, as in each edition, will offer its particular report as a summary of all the content presented during the event sessions.

El alcalde de Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, participará también en la clausura de la 4K-HDR Summit e intervendrá justo antes del tributo a Luis Martínez, director de Programas de Canal Sur, fallecido recientemente.
