Wi-Fi XL is a solution intended for network service providers (NSPs) looking to deliver better wireless performance in the connected home.

Technicolor WiFi XL

Technicolor has officially announced the global availability of its solution Wi-Fi XL for network service providers (NSPs) looking to deliver better wireless performance in the home while managing the increasing complexity associated with offering multi-user gigabit services to consumers. Technicolor gateways and extenders developed for the Wi-Fi XL solution are compatible with the latest Wi-Fi 6 and EasyMesh standards, enabling network service providers (NSPs) to address the challenges of providing seamless in-home connectivity.

"While operators have made great progress in introducing gigabit speeds in the home, NSPs are looking for ways to ensure that both speed and connectivity are maintained and spread throughout the home over home Wi-Fi networks," he says Ashwani Saigal, vice president of Technicolor's broadband products unit.

This is a customer need that is only going to grow in importance as the complexity of wireless environments in the home increases, resulting in degradation of network performance and end-user frustration.

"A growing number of devices, including phones, TVs and new IoT equipment, are trying to connect to the wireless network all the time. This is creating dense connectivity environments that lead to performance issues. Increasingly, end users are turning to their PNS to solve these problems. Technicolor's Wi-Fi XL solution represents the latest evolution in our mission to meet this market need," said Saigal.

"The specially developed gateways and extenders are compatible with Technicolor Homeware, based on the latest version of Open WRT, and with RDK-B middleware environments. This means that NSPs will be able to benefit from the innovations that are already emerging from Technicolor's HERO Partnership Program that makes the connected home in general and wireless connectivity in particular, a new playground for technology companies and developers."

As such, the Wi-Fi XL offering complements the work Technicolor is developing with Technicolor's Hero Partners program, including AirTies.

"Wi-Fi XL makes available advanced software solutions from our partners that intelligently select the most appropriate access point and frequency bands to reduce interference and detect wireless issues, so they can be resolved automatically, while providing operators with advanced insights into the end-user's Wi-Fi environment. In addition, we are about to add artificial intelligence to the game very soon," explains Saigal.

"Technicolor also conducts product testing and benchmarking for the Wi-Fi XL solution in our Wi-Fi test centers, enabling real, on-demand simulations and measurements to optimize product design, costs, and performance directly related to Wi-Fi antenna design and placement," Underlines.

Technicolor's Wi-Fi XL solution also includes multi-gigabit speed home gateways that support Fiber and DOCSIS 3.1 access technologies that can be deployed with Wi-Fi extenders offered by Technicolor; a tri-band extender that provides dedicated 5Ghz backhaul connectivity to the gateway, while keeping separate 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios designed to connect with customer devices in the home. In addition, Technicolor has a dual-band extension option; and the ability to prioritize data traffic in the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands to meet the performance requirements of devices and applications that are highly sensitive to latency, bandwidth, and usage.
