Cartoon Network has once again counted on the services of Globecast on this occasion for the launch of two pop-up channels in Asia.

Following discussions earlier this year with Globecast, which explored the possibilities, Cartoon Network decided to launch two pop-up channels in Singapur con Singtel and in Philippines with Signal.

In Singapore, the canal, called Pop & Watch, was available for free on Singtel's IPTV service, as well as its Singtel TV GO and Singtel CAST mobile apps from June 12 to 21. Cartoon Network Classics It was available as a pay channel on Cignal TV from May 3 to June 2.

James Crossland, senior vice president of international operations at Turner (WarnerMedia), comments: “These emerging channels were something new for us in Asia and we were very pleased with the results. “We are always looking to offer our broadcast partners new and innovative platforms to showcase our content and it is important to everyone that technical services are seamless and hassle-free.”

Globecast has expanded its existing media, broadcast and archiving management agreement with WarnerMedia to provide technical services to networks. WarnerMedia in London delivered content to Globecast's ingest and playout system in Singapore. The content was then served as streaming-ready files and ingested automatically. Much of the content was already archived by Globecast and restored for broadcast as required by the daily playlist, and any missing material was highlighted well before broadcast. Distribution to affiliates was done using WarnerMedia's existing satellite capacity.

Graphics were also added to the channels. Extensive testing was carried out prior to launch and Globecast provided complete 24/7 monitoring of the pop-up channels while they were on air.

Shakunt Malhotra, Vice President of Operations at Globecast Asia, said: “This was an exciting project and we look forward to more such projects globally. Cartoon Network leveraged our expertise in managing content and our streamlined workflow, which was ideal for a quick launch and smooth operation. “This project was a great way to maximize the use of content and therefore the return on investment, expanding the reach of the brand.”
