PRISA closes its station M80 Radio after 25 years on the air
The music channel will be replaced by Los40Classic, the new music channel with which PRISA intends to recover the lost audience, benefiting from the Los40 brand with which several generations maintain a strong emotional bond.
This Wednesday from 6:40 p.m., HURRY will turn off the signal of one of the flagship music channels on Spanish radio. After 25 years on the air, M80 Radio will give way to Los40Classic, on a new Los40 label focused on classic songs.
The beginnings of M80 date back to the early 1980s. Under the name Radio 80 (Cadena 80), it began broadcasting on July 6, 1981, with a network of 19 stations spread throughout Spain. Its majority shareholder was EDICA (Editorial Católica) and Luis Ángel de la Viuda was its first director.
In 1984 Antena 3 Radio acquired the station from its owner, EDICA (Editorial Católica), adopting the name Radio 80 Serie Oro, with a network of 16 stations spread throughout Spain.
In January 1993, after the entry of the PRISA group into Antena 3, Radio 80 Serie Oro was merged with Radio Minuto, giving rise to M80 Serie Oro, being its first director. Jose Ramon Pardo. It began broadcasting on January 18, 1993, becoming reference of musical radio formula specialized in oldies.
Pablo Motos, Gomaespuma, Alfonso Arús, Ángel Álvarez Julián Ruiz are just some of the professionals who have passed through his waves during these years.
With Los40Classic, PRISA aims to recover the lost audience by benefiting from the Los40 brand, paying tribute to the entire generations of listeners who have grown up with the greatest music hits on the leading music radio, with which they maintain a strong emotional bond. In this way, it will cover the strong demand that exists today related to the music and culture of the golden age of Spanish pop.
Javier Penedo will be in charge of waking up listeners every morning in Morning Box, from 07:00 to 10:30 a.m. Next, a space for the radio formula in Forty 40, which will be presented by Bruno Sokolowicz from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and by Guillem Caballé from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. From 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., it is Mónica Ordoñez's turn to present Only Nº1, with Los40's #1 of all time.
Jorge Sánchez, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., will be in charge of Three, two or one, the musical magazine back home where the #2 and #3 of Los40 of all time will also fit.
On the weekend, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., it will be time to 40 R.P.M with Juan Pablo Jiménez as presenter.
