Spanish Television reviews six years of 4K production experiences and presents its two latest projects: the series 'Murillo, the joy of the baroque' (not yet released) and the 100 fps recording of a report on the Spanish athletes of Rhythmic gymnastics.

The Spanish Radio Television Corporation (RTVE), as a Spanish public broadcaster at the forefront of experimentation in Ultra High Definition content production, is very present in the 4K Summit which is celebrated this week in Malaga.

At the UHD world summit, RTVE is sharing with professionals its experiences in project development since 2012.

Luisa Penabaz, from the Department of Cultural Programs of TVE, has been in charge of presenting these pioneering experiences. The Corporation produced a short film in 4K for the first time in 2012 that was presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

In 2013, he produced the documentary The passion of the Prado which takes a tour of more than 400 frames recorded in 4K for the first time.

At IBC 2015, he premiered his first production in Dolby HDR with a documentary filmed at the San Ildefonso Farm.

A year later, he carried out the production of The Queen. Art between beats that gets closer to the artists, works and visitors of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía like never before, through 4K HDR and WCG color space. This 100% RTVE production, directed by Juan Carlos González and Miguel Ángel Castro, just premiered a few days ago in Madrid.

Penabaz has also highlighted the series Spanish World Heritage City which, still in production, takes a tour in 4K over 15 chapters of all the Spanish cities that have this distinction.

As for live event production, it is worth highlighting the experiences of the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace and the opera Parsifal from the Teatro Real in Madrid in 2016 with Dolby and Dolby AC4.

Don Quixote, in 4K

The RTVE documentation department has started an ambitious project to salvage rounded works in 35 mm. emblematic of public television. The first of these 4K HDR remasters is the series The Quijote directed in 1992 by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón and starring Fernando Rey and Alfredo Landa.

The digitization technique used by RTVE will give new life to RTVE's invaluable documentary collection and places Spanish Television as one of the pioneering audiovisual companies in this technique worldwide.

The 4K Summit in Malaga has also served to present the RTVE's latest 4K project. This is the series Murillo, the joy of the baroque (not yet released) filmed throughout this year in numerous locations and which reflects the life and work of the best artist of the 19th century.

Marcos Hernández, co-author of the documentary, has presented a fragment of this work that coincides with the 400th anniversary of the Sevillian painter, which can be enjoyed in the Demo Area of ​​the 4K Summit until Friday the 9th at the Digital Content Pole of Málaga .

Another new feature this year from RTVE in 4K has been the recording at 100 frames per second of the report on the Spanish Rhythmic Gymnastics athletes.

The director of the Broadcast and Networks Area, of the Innovation area of ​​RTVE, Adolfo Muñoz and the head of the DTT and satellite Planning unit, Miguel Ángel Bona, have shown a fragment of the report and have explained the characteristics of its recording, a one of the first made in Europe at 100 fps.
