Telefónica beats Mediapro in the purchase of LaLiga rights for the next three seasons
Telefónica acquires the audiovisual rights of the First and Second Division between the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons for 2,940 million.
LaLiga concluded this Monday the partial commercialization of the rights to exploit audiovisual content of the National League Championship of First and Second Division in Spain and Andorra, for the Seasons 2019/2020 to 2021/2022.
Telephone has acquired the broadcasting rights to all LaLiga matches for the residential market in its payment modality for the next three seasons, from 2019 to 2022, for 2,940 million euros.
For its part, Mediapro will retain the rights of all First Division and Second Division matches, for a fee and for broadcast only on Public establishments (hospitality, mainly), exclusively, as well as the summaries of all the matches (non-exclusive).
Of the eight lots that went out to tender, none have reached the reserve price, but the Control Body, meeting on Monday afternoon, decided to provisionally award, in the absence of formalizing the relevant contracts, four lots (2, 4, 5 and 7).
The total amount of these four lots for the three-year period 2019/2020 to 2021/2022 has been 3,421 million euros (an average of 1,140 million per season), which represents an increase of 15% compared to the four equivalent lots in the previous three-year period (2,978 million). In addition, the Copa del Rey and the 2nd Division are not included in lots 4, 5 and 7 of the next triennium (they were in some way included in the previous triennium).
LaLiga is confident that the lots that have not been awarded in this first round will also be awarded satisfactorily in the coming months.
International Audiovisual Rights
In addition, last Thursday, the Control Body renewed the contract with the International Marketing Agency (Mediapro), for the sale of international audiovisual rights for the next five seasons (2019/2020 to 2023/2024).
Thanks to this agreement, LaLiga is guaranteed income from international audiovisual rights of 4,485 million euros over the next five seasons, 30% more than in the previous three-year period.

Lot 4 (Telefónica)
- One match of each First Division matchday, free-to-air or paid, exclusively, in the first team.
- The six matches of the promotion phase to the First Division (play-offs), free or paid, in non-exclusive.
- Highlights of all First and Second Division matches in non-exclusive.
Lot 5 (Telefónica)
- LaLiga Primera Channel or its equivalent content:
- Eight matches of each matchday of the First Division paid, exclusively, in the third team.
- The six matches of the promotion phase to the First Division (play-offs) are paid, non-exclusive.
- Highlights of all First and Second Division matches in non-exclusive.
Lot 7 (Mediapro)
- LaLiga TV channel or its equivalent content:
- All First Division and Second Division matches, for a fee and for broadcast only in public establishments (non-residential customers), exclusively.
- The six matches of the promotion phase to the First Division (play-offs) are paid, non-exclusive.
- Highlights of all First and Second Division matches in non-exclusive.
