The Mediapro headquarters in Madrid in the La Carpetania Business Park (Getafe) hosts a day in which the latest trends in workflows in the media sector have been analyzed in morning and afternoon sessions.
Unitecnic together with its technological partners Avid, Telestream y Object Matrix has organized at the group headquarters Mediapro in Madrid at the La Carpetania Business Park (Getafe) a day in which the latest trends in workflows in the media sector were analyzed in morning and afternoon sessions.
David Vivas, technical director and head of the Madrid Office, was in charge of opening the sessions by thanking the professionals who attended the call for their presence.
On behalf of Avid, its sales director for Iberia, Greece and Africa, Gonzalo del Val, reviewed some of the innovations recently presented at NAB aimed at “creating more content, with greater quantity and with control over its entire production cycle. life,” he assured.
Del Val analyzed some of the industry trends based on the latest studies from the consultancy firm Devoncroft, which show that multi-platform content distribution, remote production, 4K, immersive audio, the transition to a multi-channel environment and the consolidation of all Tapeless workflows are some of the hot topics, although with different weight depending on the regions of the world.
On the other hand, he reflected on how security, especially when it comes to cloud (both public and hybrid cloud), artificial intelligence and machine learning will represent a revolution in the search for achieving greater efficiency.
Regarding Avid's proposals, he highlighted how the manufacturer, through the Avid Customer Association Vote initiative in which more than 5,000 users from 117 countries vote, can take the pulse of its customer base and analyze what functionalities they want to see in solutions from the Avid portfolio.
The result of this consultation between video editors, music composers, graphic designers... Avid has introduced more than 80 updates and new functions in its solutions in the last year.
Avid news at NAB
Among the latest proposals that we saw at NAB, the free entry-level version (under the name First) stands out, aimed at training and getting in touch with the user of its popular Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius solutions. Three solutions offer limitations in terms of the number of tracks, projects, bines... but they allow new creators to enter the Avid world, later moving on according to their needs to a second line of products and to the top of the range with Ultimate where you will find all the enabled functionalities.
Other important new features are the expansion of the family of I/O solutions with the new Artist DNxIP and Artit DNxID.
In storage, from Nexis Pro to E2, E4 and E5 and up to 64 chassis, Avid makes it easy to store material at any resolution. Also highlight the launch of new nearline storage with Nexis E5 NL with SAS HDDs in 960TB or 480TB versions in a 5RU unit.
Regarding audio, note that the S6L family now has three new control surfaces, a new motor and two new I/O racks, all on a unified platform. Offering unmatched modularity, scalability and flexibility to meet any production size, space or budget required, Venue S6L is the only live sound platform with 100% software, hardware and sample file compatibility across all system components.
Regarding the MediaCentral platform, the global media ecosystem grows by increasing connections and collaboration. Avid's approach continues to be a fully configurable concept in terms of modules and tools according to each role.
A novelty worth highlighting in MediaCentral is Editorial Management, designed for work groups of 2 to 25 users. Allows you to create and modify projects and editor bins from MediaCentral Cloud UX. This tool allows, with a management administration shared with Nexis, to manage the media with control over searches, deletion, cataloging, creation of EDLs, bins...
Gonzalo del Val also highlighted the integration of social media to enrich content with content on social networks, and powerful tools that allow diving and integrating social media.
He also highlighted that Avid places a lot of value on the collaboration of third parties such as Make.Tv, Woody, X.News or Yepco Logger in the MediaCentral Cloud UX ecosystem as a transparent application for the user.
In terms of services, AVid is working closely with companies such as Microsfot, Glookast, Root6, MOG, FileCatalyst…
Its technology, apart from being technically integrated, has its own app within the MediaCentral Cloud UX interface, allowing it to combine its functionalities with those of Avid.
Telestream's technology, as Boath highlighted, will allow broadcasters such as Fox Sports to produce summaries remotely near real-time on the public Internet during the World Cup in Russia. The system will capture 20 HD and 2 UHD sources from up to three matches simultaneously and via 22 Lightspeed Live Capture servers and AVCIntra 100 encoding and a proxy will be sent via Aspera and Vantage Media Processing Platform to the Adobe Premiere editing islands in Los Angeles. All this with a latency of less than 15 seconds.
Thanks to this work scheme, Fox will not need to have an editing staff in Moscow nor infrastructure, satellite capacity or dedicated circuits.
Another success story is found in the production of Big Brother in Israel. The house where the reality show takes place is about 50 kilometers from where the editing of the summaries takes place. 2 Lightspeed Live Captures collect 4 already mixed video sources from the house, and over 1Gb IP Internet and using Avid and Vantage Media Processing Platform technology, it is transported to Neve Ilan near Jerusalem.
For the production company Reshet, it has meant reducing CAPEX by half as well as the OPEX of daily production.
George Boath has also reviewed the integration possibilities that Telestream opens with Avid solutions since Vantage products make it possible to automate the processing of moving media to or from Avid systems with total security (Media Composer, Newscutter, Interplay, Media Central, Isis, Nexis…). It also allows you to transcode the source to Avid-compatible formats, create Avid-compatible media from Live or VT sources, distribute Avid media directly to external folders, export Interplay assets with database folder monitoring, or export MXF or QuickTime directly to Avid…
“Using Vantage solutions in Avid systems can increase productivity,” Boath said.
On the other hand, he commented that virtualized systems, cloud, SaaS and artificial intelligence will allow the development of new business models for virtualized systems or those that respond during peak work periods, the possibility of virtualized GPUs, daily license rental models on demand, bursting on demand…
Its SaaS services in the cloud will facilitate simple trancoding, advanced workflows, Live Caption insertion for streaming services, QC with detection of lip sync errors... and all this with the possibility of pricing according to the minutes of content.
Object Matrix
Francisco Ontoso, CTO of Object Matrix, has been in charge of presenting the possibilities offered by the technology of this British company.
Object Matrix develops products focused on audiovisuals, helping creators, producers, post-producers, etc. implement hybrid clouds while modernizing their infrastructure to create these hybrid clouds.
Since 2003, Object Matrix has been working with object-based technologies, being one of the few companies that develop object-based technologies designed specifically for the audiovisual world.
“Our solutions offer new sources of income for your content, allowing you to stand out from your competition. “We have been disruptors both commercially and technologically,” he noted.
The company develops cloud or hybrid storage platforms by implementing systems based on the modernization of infrastructures. Being an object-oriented platform, its flexibility is tremendous since its systems can be used to unify storage islands and workflows under the same management.
“Our solutions benefit the user with intuitive interfaces, CEOs and CFOs by helping them increase efficiency, and CTOs by offering flexibility, future-proof, secure and scalable…” highlighted Ontoso.
On the other hand, he pointed out that they are experts in the governance of digital content, identifying where it is, who accesses it and what is done with it. “Our platforms enable that based on object-based technology,” he said.
MatrixStore, its core product, is a Digital Content Governance (DCG) and object-based platform that protects and preserves content throughout its lifecycle. It is a proposal that already makes use of artificial intelligence thanks to intelligent algorithms
MatrixStore supports metadata, easily integrates into file- and IP-based workflows, everything that happens on an object is audited and protected as well as the content.
In conjunction with Avid MatrixStore solutions, it has been working since 2010 with broadcasters such as Tv Globo, BBC, RTBF, Caracol Tv, Fox Sports Brasil, ProSieben or France Televisions.
The day closed with a round table in which Avid participated, Rob Roberts, Senior Presales Director EMEA, APAC and Gonzalo del Val, Sales Manager Iberia, Greece and Africa; by Telestream, George boath, director of Channel Marketing, Vantage and Lightspeed Products; and, finally, representing Object Matrix, Francisco Ontoso, CTO of the British company and Julien Gachot, CEO of Ivory, its wholesaler in Europe.
All experts have agreed that it is time to modernize infrastructure and work flows since once costs have been reduced, these steps are key to not disappearing in the face of the push for skills that come from many fronts.
Por último, desatacaron el impacto de la inteligencia artificial para automatizar y agilizar la producción de contenidos y lo que es más importante… monetizarlos.
