The Board of Directors of the institution has decided to grant this recognition to the journalist, film critic and director in recognition of his dedication to the memory and cultural management of our seventh art in its various professional facets.

Diego Galan has been recognized with the Gold Medal of the Academy of Dinner, an award given to him for “his admirable career and his constant support for Spanish cinema.” With the granting of this award, the Board of Directors recognizes his dedication to the memory and cultural management of our seventh art in its various professional facets.

A recognition that has caught the veteran journalist and filmmaker “by surprise”, who has been “working around Spanish cinema all his life with reviews, books and documentaries”, and who, when asked about the merits that have been able to channel this recognition, has highlighted joker “old age, that always counts.”

Journalist, film critic and former director of the San Sebastián Festival (contest that he led in two stages, from 1986 to 1989 and from 1995 to 2000), Galán began to criticize in 1967, in the magazine Our cinema. Later he developed this work in Triumph and in The country, a newspaper with which he continues to collaborate today.

Director of numerous documentaries focused on the history of our cinema, he has directed, among others, works on the editor Pablo G. del Amo (Pablo G. del Amo, a creator of illusions), the San Sebastian Festival (A history of the Festival) and has addressed how Spanish cinema has represented women throughout its history (With a broken leg) and the man (Send eggs). His work has also been developed on television, with non-fiction series Memories of Spanish cinema y Dear comedians.

That's it author of several books on Spanish cinema, including 18 post-war Spaniards –in collaboration with Fernando Lara–; Adventures and misadventures of cousin Angelica; Berlanga or the starving cinema; Fernando Fernán-Gómez, passionate adventures of a very red-haired man; Emiliano Piedra, a producer; Jaime de Armiñan; 15 letters to Fernando Rey; The good memory of Fernando Fernán-Gómez; Pilar Miró: no one taught me how to live; y 50 years of filming. San Sebastian Film Festival.

Galán received the Alfonso Sánchez Award from the Film Academy in 2010, a tribute to which he now adds a new recognition.
