Maruja Callaved, pioneer in news and television programs in Spain, dies
Callaved developed almost her entire professional career at Spanish Television where she was linked to news programs and programs from Paseo de la Habana (Madrid).
Maruja Callaved, a pioneer in news and television programs in Spain, died yesterday in Madrid. She was born in Jaca (Huesca) and studied Philosophy and Teaching. She later obtained the title of Journalist. He developed almost his entire professional career on Spanish Television where she was linked to news programs and programs from Paseo de la Habana. There she was a continuity announcer in space Saturday club and then in the program Walter and the Quaver family.
He worked with historical television professionals such as José Luis Colina, Blanca Álvarez or Jesús Álvarez, whom he considered his teachers. He went on news in Current panorama with Tico Medina and later was the presenter of Newscast. He achieved popularity with the program Let's go to the table (1967), the first cooking television format in Spain. Then programs like TV goes through neighborhoods with Alfredo Amestoy o Standard of living.
In the 1970s he got behind the camera and makes programs like Here and now (1975) with José Luis Uribarri or People today (1976-1981), famous interview program, which earned him the 1977 Ondas Award.
Away from public life, one of her last televised appearances was at the XVI Iris Awards Ceremony broadcast by TVE and which paid tribute to the Treasures of television in Spain.
Maruja Callaved recorded her professional testimony for the historical archive of the Television Academy and, taking stock of her career, declared: “I have been a brave woman with advanced ideas but, above all, I have had a true love for culture.”
The Academy has joined in the pain and sadness of the loss from a great pioneer television professional in Spain sending a warm and affectionate message of affection to all her family and friends.
