Pay television income soars in Spain

Pay television revenues grew by 15% in the first quarter of the year according to the latest report from the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) The latest data provided by CNMCData They highlight that free-to-air television obtained 465 million euros, while pay television obtained 520 million euros.
The total number of subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2017 was just over 6 million (6.09 million), 31 thousand more subscribers compared to the previous quarter.
86% of pay television subscribers had the service contracted under some packaged modality. The packaging with the most growth continued to be the five-fold package (the one that combines pay television with the four telecommunications services: fixed telephony, mobile telephony, fixed broadband and mobile broadband) which accounted for more than 99 thousand new net registrations in the quarter and reached a total of 4.9 million subscribers.
Advertising revenues, which include conventional advertising, sponsorships, telesales, telepromotion and product placement, were estimated at 526 million euros (83 million from radio and 443 million from television). In the case of television, 7.6 million correspond to pay television and 435 to free-to-air television.
Within the free-to-air segment, private television stations obtained 410 million euros, 92.5% of the total advertising investment on television.
The two main television groups, Mediaset and Atresmedia, represented 88.6% of television advertising revenues.
Consumption
Average television consumption during the quarter was 4 hours and 3 minutes per person per day, practically the same as in the previous quarter.
By platform, television consumption, both open and pay, was distributed 77.2% for DTT, 2.9% for satellite television and 19.9% for cable and TV platforms. -XDSL/FTTH.
By groups, Mediaset and Atresmedia were leaders, obtaining 28.8 and 27.1 points of quarterly audience share, respectively.
The two most watched channels during the quarter continued to be the general channels Telecinco and Antena 3, with an audience share of 13.6% and 13.3%, respectively.
