VSN WEDIT: when a cloud editor shakes hands with a MAM
This new web-based tool will allow journalists and editors to manage and edit all of their cloud assets from a single interface. The integration of this web editing tool within a MAM system will also allow new workflows.
VSN will debut its new WEDIT editing tool at NAB 2017. Integrated into VSN Explorer, its business and media process management platform, this solution developed in HTML5 is emerging as a quick and easy tool that will allow journalists and editors to edit videos and prepare them for broadcast from a single interface without having to access another system.
Jordi Capdevila, marketing director at VSN, highlights that “our new web-based video tool opens a gap that will allow editors to manage and edit all their assets in the cloud from a single interface. In addition to saving time and helping users meet tight deadlines, WEDIT can help businesses reduce their licensing needs and even avoid costly NLE systems.”
Within the VSNExplorer interface and integrated with a full-featured MAM, WEDIT users can work on sequences and clips located in deep archives or nearline or online storage. WEDIT is a “cloud content editor” because it allows users to access and edit files in the cloud, a capability that can increase collaboration between editors and departments. In terms of editing features, WEDIT users can quickly edit sequences by cut; generate cut lists, segments with entry and exit points with accurately proxy frame; associate metadata with editing cuts; quickly edit from the interfaces timeline; and finally, consolidate pieces for publication. At any time, users can export a project to an EDL file to finish editing, if necessary, in other third-party non-linear systems, such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer.
Editing and MAM integration
The integration of this web editing tool within a MAM system allows for new workflows. WEDIT users, for example, can rely on metadata automatically extracted by MAM itself to accurately search for content. In other words, an editor will be able to directly search for sports videos containing, for example, the best plays of the year and then locate and encode the actual segments. Or thanks to MAM's speech-to-text functionality, the editor could search for content within the video's audio transcripts, and again locate and encode videos in which an interviewee, for example, is talking about a particular topic. VSN's WEDIT also allows you to segment and localize content based on other parameters such as format, bitrate, rights or user validation.
These advanced features and workflows drive efficiency in the video editing process. By using WEDIT, VSN customers will not need to switch to another third-party NLE system or use plug-ins to complete their videos, regardless of the level of finishing the editing requires. Switching between tabs and interfaces, and even downloading files and later uploading them to another system, undoubtedly increases the number of steps required to complete news projects. Now, WEDIT aims to put an end to these intermediate processes by streamlining the entire workflow.
