In Spain we change channels a total of 12 times a day on average with an average of 25 minutes per session. The most “zappers” are men and those over 45 years of age.

Remote control

According to a report by Windward Communication, the zapping phenomenon is decreasing in Spain. If in 2009 the maximum was recorded with 21 daily zapping sessions, so far in 2016 the figure has dropped to 12, the lowest figure since 1993. However, the time of each session has grown, from 14 minutes in 2009 to 25 in the current year.

Children, in addition to being the ones who watch television the least, are the least prone to zapping with 7 sessions on average. Young people between 13 and 24 years old stream an average of 8 times a day, while adult audiences, especially those over 64 years of age who consume the most, are those who change the channel the most per day with an average of 17 different sessions.

By region, there are no major differences in the number of zapping sessions, however, those who exceed the average are the Basques, with a daily average of 14 sessions, and those below are the Murcians with 11 daily sessions.

Time zones

The channel is changed a total of 12 times a day on average, with the afternoon (5 times) and prime-time (6 times) being the periods of the day with the greatest influx of zapping. Therefore, it is verified that there is a direct relationship between television consumption and the number of sessions.

While by month there is no significant difference in the zapping activity, that is, there is no seasonality of this phenomenon, there is seasonality by days of the week.

In this way, on the weekend the daily average of zapping is 14 times, while on weekdays it is reduced to 12 daily sessions.
