As a preview of what's to come at NAB 2016, Sony has announced the launch of its new PXW-Z150 XDCAM series camcorder. Weighty, lightweight and easy to use, it incorporates a new function with which you get wireless operation and high-quality recording in 4K (3840 x 2160 up to a maximum of 30p).

It features an aligned 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, providing users with spectacular 4K recording and impressive 5x slow motion in Full HD, an essential feature for content creators who want to deliver top-quality corporate or personal productions.

Another advantage is the possibility of continuous recording with a high frame rate of up to 120 frames per second (fps), all in Full HD quality. Clear Image Zoom technology works with 24x and 18x zoom in HD and 4K modes respectively, in addition to the standard 12x optical zoom. The large size of the unique 20-megapixel 1.0-type sensor (14.2 million effective pixels) delivers sharp images even in low-light conditions, providing filmmakers with excellent clarity and sharpness and further flexibility in shooting possibilities in a wide variety of environments. In response to the growing expectations in the audiovisual sector, which are changing at a dizzying pace, users will be able to enjoy live streaming capabilities via a wireless connection to FTP and integrated Wi-Fi.

Ergonomic 4K design

The PXW-Z150 is ergonomically designed for easy recording. The lightweight and compact body includes the integration of advanced features, eliminating the need for multiple external accessories. The built-in 4-stop ND filter is included for flexibility in controlling exposure and depth of field, and the Multi-Interface Shoe eliminates the need for cables through easy integration between the PXW-Z150 and Sony peripherals such as UWP-D Series wireless microphones.

The PXW-Z150 can be easily controlled using a smartphone or tablet, which doubles as a Wi-Fi remote, and the battery life offers a remarkable 400-minute continuous recording time, allowing you to always have it on hand to capture what you need. High visibility is achieved by the 0.39-type OLED viewfinder with 1,440,000 dots, high contrast and wide viewing angle, along with the 3.5-type LCD panel with 1,550,000 dots.

The PXW-Z150 adapts to a wide variety of environments and editing requirements and supports the conventional MPEG2HD broadcast format (50Mbps/35Mbps), as well as Sony's advanced XAVC (Long GOP) format. The PXW-Z150 provides a variety of built-in connection options, including professional standard 3G-SDI, XLR, HDMI, USB, REMOTE, and composite (phono) inputs, eliminating the need for adapters. To extend recording time and workflow flexibility, the camcorder is equipped with two memory card slots and is compatible with SDXC and SDHC cards. The two media slots offer various recording options, such as backups, simultaneous and relay recording.

The Exmor RS 1.0-type image sensor provides high sensitivity and high performance in low-light environments. The high full readout speed ensures motion recording at high speeds with minimal image distortion. Videographers can deliver high resolutions and contrasts from the center to the edge of the lens thanks to the high-performance 29-348mm wide-angle with 4K support and 12x optical zoom.

On the other hand, the camcorder supports continuous recording at high Full HD speeds of 120 fps, which allows you to achieve a slow-motion speed of 5x. High quality FHD XAVC Long 4:2:2 10bit and 50Mbps and also supports MPEG2HD broadcast format (50Mbps/35Mbps).

Users can take advantage of the camcorder's advanced networking features, such as built-in Wi-Fi for live streaming capabilities (QoS support will be achieved via a firmware update) and wireless FTP connections to integrate wireless workflows so they can keep pace with their customers' ever-changing deadlines.
