Raven: RED's commitment to a low-cost 4K camera
It will record 4K video at speeds of up to 120 frames per second, and can record in RedCode RAW format with a compression of 5:1 at 24 frames per second.
For those professionals who want to start working with a camera RED But your budget is limited, RED Digital Cinema will soon launch a new 4K camera.
Although RED has barely announced details yet, the new Raven will go on the market at a price below $6,000, will have a modular and metallic body, integrated microphone and Wi-Fi, and a bayonet for EF optics fixed on the front.
The heart of the camera is the 20.48mm Dragon sensor. (more than smaller than an APS-C and a little larger than a micro four thirds) that will allow you to record 4K images at 120 fps or 2K at 240 fps. With it, it will be possible to record 4K video with speeds of up to 120 frames per second, as well as the possibility of recording in RAW REDCode format (R3D9 with a compression of 5:1 at 24 frames per second. Another advantage is that it will allow recording simultaneously in both REDCode and Apple ProRes, thus ensuring the best image quality in any format.
Although its body is based on the Weapon design, the new Raven will be lighter and, due to its characteristics, the manufacturer does not propose it as a replacement for its popular Scarlet model.
RED plans to begin marketing the new camera from February 2016, coming in a body-only version or in conjunction with a complete accessory kit.
