Present and future of 4K production: from the Varicam 35 to the new DVX200

Jaume Miró, Technical Product Manager at Panasonic, will lead a workshop at BIT Experience in which the solutions offered by the multinational for 4K capture will be discussed.

On Wednesday the 17th at 11:15 in the morning, Panasonic will organize the workshop at BIT Experience 2015 Present and future of 4K production: from the Varicam 35 to the new DVX200.

Jaume Miró, Technical Product Manager at Panasonic, will be in charge of directing this meeting between professionals in which the Japanese multinational's commitment to Ultra High Definition will be evident.

In addition to the first 4K cameras, Panasonic is expanding its portfolio with new UHDTV solutions such as robotic cameras, monitors, projectors, and even cameras for the consumer market.

In professional terms, we find two reference 4K models, the Varicam 35 and at the other end of the range, the new DVX-200. Although this latest camcorder will not be on the market until after IBC, at BIT Experience we will be able to see a non-operational prototype.

Throughout the Panasonic workshop, images shot in 4K with Varicam 35 will be shown and questions related to the entire Ultra High Definition workflow will be raised.

Varicam 35

The new VariCam 35 4K features a new super 35mm MOS image sensor and the AVC-ULTRA family of video codecs. The innovative design of the VariCam 35 includes the 4K camera module (AU-V35C1) and the recorder module (AU-VREC1), which can also be interchanged with the new Panasonic type 2/3 camera module (AU-V23HS1) . Allows professionals to switch between 35mm and 2/3 type camera heads to best suit their creative needs.

High-end production features include high real-time frame rate, 120fps 4K recording, demonstrating master-level 2K/FHD recording capabilities, and advanced workflows. with simultaneous side-by-side 4K/UHD recording, reference 2K/HD and proxy recordings for in-camera color grading, as well as on-site control and monitoring. The camera also has a new OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with optical zoom. Finally, 24-bit LPCM audio has been added to enable integrated audio master recording.

The VariCam 35 offers an unprecedented variety of recording formats, including 4K and UHD in AVC-ULTRA 4K, and 2K and FHD in AVC-Intra 100/200. To address the need for high-speed file sharing, the camera encodes proxy files in parallel with 4K and 2K production formats, enabling fast and efficient offline editing. It also includes support for Apple's ProRes 4444 and ProRes 422 HQ for HD recording.

The VariCam 35 will use Panasonic's new expressP2 card for high frame rate and 4K recording. The camera is equipped with four memory card slots in total, two for expressP2 cards and two for microP2 cards.

DVX-200

The AG-DVX200 4K camcorder will allow any professional to work in 4K. Heir to the AG-DVX100, the new 200 will be the first with 4K/50p resolution, 4/3 format and integrated zoom lens.

The new DVX200 camera delivers stunning images thanks to the powerful 13x LEICA DICOMAR 4K lens, combined with a large format 4K sensor and a set of aesthetic features such as reduced depth of field, attractive Bokeh and an incredible dynamic range of 12 steps, thanks to the adoption of VariCam's V-Log L curve.

La AG-DVX200 presume de una carcasa con un renovado diseño que integra la lente y ofrece una excelente movilidad y flexibilidad gracias al compartimento con tapa que protege la batería y las conexiones del polvo y de los golpes.
