Mediapro will return the Gol T channel to Atresmedia on July 1

Gol T will continue to broadcast through its own OTT platform and TotalChannel.

Mediapro and Atresmedia have reached an agreement to bring forward the return of the DTT channel occupied by Gol T starting next July 1. The agreement, in force since 2009 between the two audiovisual groups, had a duration until December 31, 2015. Mediapro had the possibility of negotiating a renewal of the agreement, but the current channel distribution situation, the elimination of 6 of the free-to-air licenses and the impossibility of broadcasting in HD have led to a renegotiation of the conditions of the transfer of the channel occupied by Gol T and its return to Atresmedia this July.

Mediapro will continue to focus on the distribution of its content and channels in the greatest possible number of distribution windows, including all pay TV operators, to deliver Premium content to the greatest possible number of users. In addition, it is committed to the new digital environment, OTT as a more appropriate medium compared to DTT for the expansion of pay TV due to the quality of its broadcast and lower distribution costs. Gol T will continue to broadcast, in HD and with the highest quality, through its own OTT platform, on which it already has 185,000 registered users and on TotalChannel with another 55,000 clients.

Gol T was the first Premium TV channel present on DTT since August 2009, thanks to an agreement with LaSexta and, later, with Atresmedia. For 6 years it has offered its subscribers the best football at the best price and is responsible for making football economically accessible to all fans by eliminating PPV as a usual form of purchase with a price of 12 euros per League match and offering 8 matches each day for 15 euros. Gol T made the best Spanish football available to fans with the Liga BBVA and the Copa del Rey, and the major international competitions, including the last World Cup in Brazil.

On July 1, Mediapro will complete its football offer with the creation of a new channel with the best international football with the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the major international leagues exclusively. Gol T subscribers will be able to discover the new channel exclusively for the first time starting July 1 for free. The new channel will be distributed, starting August 1, through TotalChannel and other pay TV operators.

This new channel could be the result of a collaboration with the Qatari Al Jazeera, although Mediapro has not yet confirmed this possibility, for the launch in Spain of BeIn Sport. The channel already broadcasts in France, the USA (with a version in English and Spanish, beIN-ñ), Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada, Latin America, Brazil and Thailand.

For its part, Atresmedia could use the now free channel for the launch of Mega, its new commitment to the male target.
