ARRI Amira

ARRI has announced SUP (Software Update Packet) 2.0 and 3.0 updates, for Amira cameras. Among other improvements, if they introduce new codecs and resolutions improving the versatility of the camera.

The SUP 2.0 update, available from next month, will unlock the ability to record in 4K, although this will require a license from the ARRI License. With the camera upgraded, it will be possible to record in ProRes 4444 in Ultra High Definition (3840 x 2160) directly on CFast 2.0 cards, at speeds of up to 60fps. In addition, ARRI has introduced a number of sharpening and de-noise tools to improve detail and noise.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the update will also allow 3.2K recording, thus achieving full compatibility with Alexa cameras that have SUP 11.0 installed.

Remote support for WiFi, individual monitoring of audio channels and speed settings in 'pre-record' mode have also been improved.

ARRI AmiraIn the middle of this year the second update (SUP 3.0) will arrive that will allow the capture of MXF files using the MPEG-2 codec in 422 and at 50Mbit/s. This will make it possible for the Amira to get closer to the TV environment by speeding up workflows in broadcast environments due to direct-from-camera file support.

ARRI will also launch a new audio accessory and a slot on the back of the camera body, which will equip it with a portable audio tuner/receiver (it will allow signals to be received wirelessly from the sound mixer-recorder or directly from the microphones, to capture audio on camera but without cables).

This update will improve support for Super 16mm lenses and offer the user full remote control for multi-camera production.
