Volicon Capture

Volicon has closed a deal with Grass Valley aimed at streamlining content reformatting workflows for any platform. The capture and sharing tools, as part of Volicon's Observer platform, and the editing possibilities provided by Edius of Grass Valley will enable the fast and efficient production of engaging content for television, web, mobile and social media.

Russell Wise, Vice President of Global Sales at Volicon, said: "Today's competitive and cost-effective providers make it critical for content providers to establish an efficient and cost-effective way to leverage all available media sources to enhance their service offering, whether content is streamed or delivered over the Internet. The combination of our capture and share applications with Grass Valley's Edius editing solution will provide an accelerated production pipeline to support rapid content creation and delivery."

The Capture app facilitates the continuous capture in high quality real-time (up to 720p) of content from any source (set-top boxes, studios and live cameras) at any time by making it immediately available to users. Meanwhile, the capture function is capable of encoding in HD H.264 with proxy versions so that local and remote users can collaborate seamlessly by reviewing live or previously recorded content by sending it directly to Grass Valley's Edius video editing software.

Since the capture app also supports caption data for both high- and low-resolution versions of content, users can perform complex searches of all captured content. The Capture function returns a list of results, each with a representative image and a short excerpt from the captions. The footage is immediately visible, with a frame-accurate subclip made available to the MAM system for broadcasting or to the Grass Valley editing system for reuse.
