Goya to the fast-paced montage of 'The Impossible'
Bernat Vilaplana and Elena Ruiz agree that 'The Impossible' "is a story with such emotional force that it marks a lot personally to the point of taking the story home and continuing to suffer from it."
The Goya for Best Editing went on this occasion to Bernat Vilaplana and Elena Ruiz for The impossible, which also recently won the Gaudí award in this category. They had Fernando Franco as competitors, for Snow White, Marta Velasco, by The artist and the model, José M. G. Moyano, by Group 7 and David Pinillos and Antonio Frutos, for Invader.
Elena Ruiz, in statements to Panorama Audiovisual, explained that “the fast-paced pace of the film marks the type of editing, which was carried out in Fassman VFX in Barcelona". It is a visual effects studio for cinema and advertising created by Lluís Castells and Xavier García, who already received the Goya in 2008 for another film by Juan Antonio Bayona, The orphanage.
Bernat Villalta considers that “in this case, and despite the large number of visual effects in the film, editing was not too complicated since all these effects were physical and we had reference in the editing room to be able to cut. “Everything affected a mother and a son who were suffering from a specific situation.”
Both technicians agree that The Impossible “is a story with such emotional force that it marks a lot personally to the point of taking the story home and continuing to suffer from it.”
