Singapore adopts DVB-T2
The deployment of the DTT network will culminate at the end of 2013. By that date, the free-to-air television broadcaster MediaCorp will broadcast all its channels under DVB-T2.
Singapore's Minister of Information, Communications and the Arts, Yaacob Ibrahim, announced at the opening ceremony of the Infocomm Business Media Exchange, which is being held these days at the Marina Bay Sands, that the country will adopt the DVB-T2 standard for deployment of the digital terrestrial television network.
This deployment will culminate at the end of 2013. By that date, the free-to-air television broadcaster MediaCorp will broadcast all its channels under DVB-T2.
Channels 5, 8, Suria and Vasantham will now broadcast in HD while the rest (Channel U and Channel NewsAsia) will broadcast in SD, moving later in 2016 to high definition.
This commitment to DVB-T2 comes as a result of an extensive study carried out by MediaCorp and the payment operator StarHub among more than five hundred families in different reception environments, demonstrating the robustness achieved by DVB-T2.
