It thus becomes the first country in Latin America to deploy a DTT network under the second generation of the DVB standard. The deployment of the new DVB-T2 network is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year, with broadcasts beginning next January.

Next year, Colombia will launch a complete DTT network, under the DVB-T2 standard, thus becoming the first country in Latin America to launch a network with the second generation of DVB.

La red utilizará transmisores Rohde & Schwarz THU9 de alta potencia. Lanzados recientemente al mercado, estos transmisores ayudan a los operadores de red a reducir significativamente costes de energía e infraestructura.

This project has been launched following the decision of the Colombian regulatory authority (CNTV) to adopt the new standard at the end of last year.

El Consorcio de Canales Nacionales Privados (CCNP), responsable del desarrollo de la TDT entre los broadcasters privados, en 2011 apostó por la introducción del DVB-T. Un consorcio constituído por las operadoras privadas Caracol Tv y TV RCN optaron por 24 transmisores de Rohde & Schwarz de la línea R&S NV8600. Ahora, estos transmisores serán gradualmente actualizados a DVB-T2 durante los próximos meses con el codificador de expansión R&S TSE800, haciendo así posible la distribución de la señal digital al 25% de la población.

CCNP escogió los transmisores de alta potencia R&S THU9 en una configuración redundante 2+1 para para el proyecto de expansión. Al tomar esta decisión, CCNP estaba preocupado con la alta eficiencia energética, un tamaño mínimo y bajo costes operaciones con un servicio fiable.

A highly compact system of three 3.9 kW transmitters housed in one rack will be installed at six different stations.

Each transmitter station at Tubaco and Tasajero is equipped with a system that contains three 6.4 kW transmitters housed in two racks and an integrated pump system. This reduces the space required for installation, allowing transmitters of this power level to be installed in locations where space is limited. All transmitters are equipped with two TCE900 exciters for DVB-T2, offering a wide range of functionality.

The deployment of the new DVB-T2 network is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year, with broadcasts beginning next January.
